'No need to go overboard with ISA release'

vox populi big thumbnail ‘There is nothing to be proud about as the ISA detainees should never have been detained in the first place.'

On Hindraf duo and 11 others set free

Reasonable Man: Everyone is glowing in the praises of the Malaysian government in releasing the ISA detainees.

There is nothing to be proud about as the ISA detainees should never have been detained in the first place.

The announcement of the release by the PM as well as the confirmation by the Home Minster that it was the PM's decision begs a legal poser.

We have always been told that only the home minster can detain or release the ISA detainees after the consideration of national security issues.

So how could the PM order their release? Isn't that illegal?

The home minster was also quoted as saying that the release is in the spirit of national reconciliation.

So was the arrest done based on political reasons or national security reasons? The release clearly shows the political nature of these arrests.

Surely if it is a national security issue, then they should not be released (am not supporting ISA detention, just raising a question)

In the euphoria of 13 ISA detainees being released, let's not go overboard in our praises. The current PM was part of the old administration, suddenly all is not rosy.

All the remaining ISA detainees must be freed, and then we can talk about praises and changing times. To me, not much has changed.

Yee: I understand the elation felt by the Hindraf detainees and their relatives. However, they must remember the struggle and why they even took the streets more than a year ago.

It was because of their plight as Indians in Malaysia. They Hindraf 5 were incarcerated and labeled as threat to national security.

Their families were humiliated and left abandoned without a father. Such is the cruelty of the Barisan Nasional government.

Their thanks should not go to the abductors but to God and the fellow Malaysians who lobbied for their release.

Why should you be thankful to the kidnappers who unjustly took you from your homes in the first place and for political reasons released you at their whim and fancy? This is cruel to say the least.

It shows that the Barisan Nasional government never looked upon them as a threat to national security in the first place but more as a threat to their political survival.

If anything, the detainees should now sue the Malaysian government.

Don & Mylene: Some people are fooled so easily. They seem to be falling over with gratitude over the release of the thirteen ISA detainees.

These thirteen, especially the Hindraf 2, should should not have been detained in the first place.

Everyone knows that the ' charges ' against the Hindraf 5 were grossly defective to say the least.

They have lost 16 months of their normal life. Can anyone repay them for the loss? What are we so grateful about?

On ISA detainee Vasanthakumar to support BN?

Sang Kancil: Hindraf is an illegal organisation which has been banned by the government. Getting their support for an election or for whatever reason is illegal.

As it is an illegal organisation, associating with Hindraf is against the Malaysian law. So, BN, beware of Hindraf.

J Doe Abdullah: I am given to understand that this Vasanthakumar is actually a mole planted by BN to spy on the Hindraf detainees.

I also recall some statements by Hindraf stalwarts to that effect previously. Given

this backdrop, it is small wonder that this man is showing his true colours in wanting to support BN on condition that he is released.

Like Ms Hee of DAP Perak has he also sold his sould to the evil BN? God help Malaysia.

Peter Ooi: All right-thinking people know that those Hindraf leaders were detained for reasons which were not sound.

Now that a few of them are released and we rejoice with them, but the majority of the public are not thankful to Najib.

Not thankful because those Hindraf leaders were unjustly detained without any proven charges in court. They were denied their freedom for no sound reasons.

As usual, upon their release, some unprincipled ones would seize the opportunity to show that they truly are grateful to Najib and are willing to do some ‘stunts' to bring attention to themselves.

Having said that, mention must be made of some special people, namely: Buwaneswary and V Papparaidu.

Buwaneswary claimed her husband will not waiver in his principles while V Papparaidu maintained his brothers are steadfast in their principles as well.

These are a few who are made of sterner stuff and that is what real leaders should be made of. We are sorely in need of those with these qualities, much more so in the ruling parties.

On Waythamoorthy's stand divides Penang Hindarf leaders

Sang Kancil: The Hindarf leaders have become arrogant and thinking too highly of themselves. They have become power-crazy and are nearing self-destruction.

Until and unless they come back to their original manifesto, we, the rakyat , will abandon Hindarf. It looks like they have been infected with the BN syndrome.

Initially they claimed to be apolitical but they now become power-crazy and money-minded. This is the basic problem with Indian-based organisations.

I am Malaysian of Tamil ethnicity. So, I know how these people think.

On Go-Go girls: Zahid 'talking nonsense'

CBK: It's so insulting to read what Zahid said. And MCA and Gerakan are to be blamed too. You don't see these go-go shows at Pakatan ceramah , do you?

Come on BN, you have insulted not only the Chinese Malaysians - especially those in Kuala Sepetang - but all Malaysians as a whole.

After ruling for 52 years with your so-called best partners in MCA and Gerakan who claim to be representing the Chinese, you have no idea what is Chinese Malaysian culture?

P Dev Anand Pillai: I am happy to note that the Chinese have been outraged by what Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had to say about Chinese culture and this coming from a man who is charge of the religious portfolio in the PM's department.

So much of respect from the new administration for the contributions of Malaysians of Chinese decent.

Therefore would it be alright to prance about in sexy outfits but not being able to sleep with a sarong on in one's own bedroom? Where did the Malaysian feminists go this time?

Chinese women, please speak up via the ballot box at Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau.

Zahidist Mentality: Zahid should go back to kindergarten. The little boys and girls will tell him that the dancing girls are not part of Chinese culture.

His remarks reveal his lack of understanding of cultures and his bigoted mentality.

Don't mock the Chinese. It is just like saying that the Mat Rempit disturbing young ladies by revving their bikes near them is Malay culture. All the Chinese should wake up.
