BN may have won Perak with the Court of Appeal judgment, but they have lost Malaysia in the People's Court.
On Court of Appeal: Zambry is MB
Kenny Gan:
The attorney-general was wrong to say that Nizar will lose a vote of no-confidence in the assembly even if the three defectors were excluded. It's true that the speaker cannot vote. So it will be 28-27 in favour of BN but he can resign and deadlock the assembly at 28-28.
The Perak constitution says that no business can be conducted until a new speaker is elected but a new speaker cannot be elected in a deadlocked House. Hence the assembly must be dissolved.
If BN is so sure of passing a vote of no confidence, why wasn't an an emergency session of the assembly called and the motion passed to avoid all this imbroglio?
In any case, speculation as to whether BN can successfully move a motion of no-confidence is pointless as it was never carried out.
Such speculation cannot replace the actual deed to change the government.
As the sultan has no power to dismiss the MB, his opinion as to who has the majority and how he arrived at it does not matter one iota.
The final arbiter is whether a vote of no-confidence can be successfully passed against Nizar but this was never done.
Steven Chen Lee: Bringing the issue to the High Court/Court of Appeal/Federal Court/kangaroo courts is all wrong.
The real court is the people's court.
Let the people of Perak be the judge and decide for themselves who they want to rule the state.
KBG: The AG’s speculative arguments are shallow and lame.
Even if not expressly stated in the constitution, it is accepted parliamentary practice throughout the world for a vote to be taken to determine the majority.
If we were to imitate his extremely narrow interpretation, is it expressly stated that the sultan can determine the whoever has the majority by personal interviews?
Isn't this the same AG who lost Pulau Batu Putih to Singapore? With quality like this, it is no wonder.
He is supposed to act in public interest but has abandoned all pretense of neutrality by acting as part of Zambry's legal team.
He cannot claim to be acting in the public interest as the public sentiment is for new elections in Perak. Instead, the AG has acted willfully to frustrate the will of the public.
The public do not pay the AG's salaries and perks to have him act against them. After this naked show of partisanship, he should resign and take a job with Umno.
If not, he will be held in public contempt and odium as ‘Umno's AG’ if he isn't already held as such.
Malaysian Justice:
BN may have won Perak with the Court of Appeal judgment, but they definitely have lost Malaysia in the People's Court.
