The Kelantan palace for the first time has broken its silence over the drama surrounding the rocky marriage of prince Tengku Muhammad Fakhry and his bride of nine months, Manohara Odelia Pinot.
The Star today, quoting from a statement signed by the palace coordinator Abdul Halim Hamad, reported that the palace has declared the matter to be a personal matter between the couple.
According to the report, palace authorities has been keeping tab on the matter, including the accusations made by Manohara.
"We are viewing the matter as a personal crisis between a husband and his wife which must be settled through the law,"
Star
reported.
The report also stated the palace clarified that statements issued by Tengku Fakhry's friend and confidante Mohd Soberi Shafii, were his personal views and not an official stand of the palace.
Worth a reality show
Mohd Soberi has been making statements, on the behalf of Tengku Fakhry, to the media since Manohara's dramatic ‘escape' hit the headlines early this week.
Manohara,17, a former Indonesian teen model of American-Indonesian parentage, had fled to Jakarta last week with the help of the American embassy authorities in a hotel in Singapore, to 'escape' her 32-year-old husband whom she claimed to have abused and tortured her.
He had also informed Malaysiakini that Manohara had seven days to show evidence that she was ill-treated. Failing to show proof, Mohd Soberi had said, Manohara would be sued by Tengku Fakhry.
The couple, at that time, were in Singapore to visit the Kelantan sultan who was seeking treatment after suffering from a heart ailment.
Speaking to the Indonesian media on Sunday, after fleeing to Jakarta, Manohara claimed that she was sexually-exploited and abused emotionally and physically by her husband.
This however was refuted by Mohd Soberi who claimed that Manohara left Singapore with her husband's consent and that she was never abused.
