On Kedah DAP quits PAS-led gov't
FR Lee: DAP should learn from their past mistakes. Joining forces with PAS was a big mistake. And now DAP has to learn it the hard way in Kedah.
Last week, Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang had made a good suggestion for DAP and PKR to join BN to govern Kedah and to snub PAS.
I think that this should be seriously considered by DAP Kedah. And I will be proud as a DAP member if DAP Kedah quits Kedah’s Pakatan Rakyat.
It was a misery in the last one year. PAS never respected DAP in Kedah. Thank god Thomas Su is making a good choice.
On From unity talks to intellectual discourse
Mrs Leo: Pakatan, please get rid of PAS. What they have achieved so far is partly because the non-Malays and also the Malays voted for them. I'm sure they know why we voted for PAS.
Since they are so 'gatal' with Umno, it is better to get rid of PAS from Pakatan.
For the next election they can stand on their own or join Umno if they want and then we'll see whether they can be as successful as what they are today.
On 'DAP, too, treating us like fools'
Proud Selangorian: I find the argument put forward by ‘Proud Kedahan’ discomforting for the following reasons:
He sounds exactly like a racist He justifies his racist inclination by claiming that the intention of PAS in declaring a 50 % quota is to ensure Kedahans own houses rather than non- Malays from other states.
He further justifies the quota by bringing in the proportion of the population ie, there is more than 50% bumis in Kedah.
If we consider this argument then the simple logic is that everything should be divided by the proportion of the population which is ridiculous.
Can you imagine in Singapore if they say that 80% of the homes should be owned by Chinese Singaporeans?
The country would go to the dogs as there is a large proportion of house owners there who are foreigners and that is what that keeps their property market up and healthy.
This is economics, my friend, and now you understand the depressed property market in Kedah.
The next argument of Kedahans owning homes is again poorly understood logic. If you wanted Kedahans to own homes then make the quota as 50% Kedahans and not bumis,
Based on what you say, it seems it is okay for bumis from other states to own homes in Kedah but not non-bumis.
If you wish, ‘Proud Kedahan’, to be a racist then by all means say it straight up but please don’t hide under some form of justification which makes no sense.
On Villagers: No CM, it's you who got it wrong
Ong: Pity Lim Guan Eng and his Pakatn state government. Being politicians and in the position they are now in, they have no choice except to be polite to unreasonable and irrational people.
Lucky me. I am not in that unfortunate position. I can remind the Indians that Kg Buah Pala's 200- year existence includes more than 50 years under the BN government.
It was the BN government that alienated the Kg Buah Pala land to Koperasi Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan Kerajaan Pulau Pinang.
Until the 2008 elections, the Indians were so proud to proclaim themselves as the most ardent and consistent supporters of the BN government.
Now Hindraf threatens to get the Indians to withdraw their support for the Pakatan government. If they succeed then there is the possibility of the BN returning to power in Penang.
This is why I say these people are irrational.
As I see it, Hindraf has three options in an election. Support BN, enter a Hindraf candidate, or support Pakatn. Of course, there is also a fourth option, which is to boycott the election.
I am sure the wise men in Hindraf can see that if BN regains power in Penang the problems of the Indians will most likely get worse.
If a Hindraf candidate contests an election, I am quite certain that the Hindraf candidate will not only lose the election, but will also lose the deposit.
The second option of a Hindraf candidate standing for an election also appears to be not viable.
Therefore it appears that the only viable option is to either support Pakatan or asks its supporters to boycott elections.
Peter Ooi: I was a very staunch supporter of HIndraf's cause. But now with their excessive demands and rhetoric, I am afraid my support for them is fast waning.
I believe many feel the same way. Kindly read the adverse comments on Hindraf's demands on MT.
First and formost, would Kg Buah Pala be still standing if Penang is run by BN? I guess it would be levelled to the ground by now.
They might not even get the compensation they asked for with the court rulings in favour of the developer.
It is through the timely intervention of DCM2 P Ramasamy that they were spared that fate.
I believe that it is through the uncompromising stand of the Penang state government against the developer that Kg Buah Pala could still exist for so long.
A demand must be reasonable and within fulfilment of the opposing parties. For example, if a new car is stolen, the victim cannot possibly demand that the insurer replaces it with another brand new car.
As a matter of fact, the compensation is valued at a certain percentage of the market value of the car.
Thus the demand that the government find another piece of land for the Oasis project is going too far.
The cost would be too high for the Penang government and by extension the Penangites to bear. Never before have I heard of such compensation to victims of land acquisition.
On Angry CM rips Hindraf's 'web of deceit'
Non-racial Interpreter: I am not a Hindraf-man, neither am I in the MIC.
I will never even dream of becoming an MCA member even if they put a million bucks in my pocket as ‘kopi money ‘ to join them.
I will stay away from Umno and I am also not into DAP or PAS.
Being therefore a party-less Malaysian, let me tell this Penang CM that I am gratful he is not the PM of the country.
His DAP party gained Penang with Makkal Sakthi’s effort and sweat by playing on the sentiments of the takyat to vote against the present BN and thereby contributing to a bigger number of opposition members in Parliament.
Can you imagine what sort of a PM will this ungrateful guy make?
