Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas allowed lawyer Gobind Singh Deo’s application to order tests on suspicious stains found at the office of the Selangor office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

NONE Gobind made the application this morning, when the inquest into the sudden death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock resumed at 9.55am at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court.

Government-appointed lawyer Tan Hock Huan, who is assisting the coroner, said the test results can be obtained by the end of today and produced before the coroner tomorrow. He said the experts will be at the building by 11.30am today.

Gobind pointed out that the stains discovered last Fiday have not been investigated by the police. As such he asked the coroner to order DNA and forensics experts to go to the MACC office this morning to obtain specimens.

He said there were two stains in the interrogation room of the MACC office, located on the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, and two more on the stairwell leading to the 15th floor.

He said it should be determined if these are blood stains, as suspected, and if so, whose blood it is.

Gobind also asked for lawyers to be allowed to accompany the experts to the MACC office.

Malik told the coroner that lawyers should be present to ensure that the process is done correctly and there is no room for doubt.

Malik said two Thai forensics personnel will accompany the team, but have yet to decide if they will take specimens.

However, Azmil ruled that only technical experts and lawyers would be allowed to go.

The proceedings have been adjourned to tomorrow morning pending the test results.

A DNA expert and a chemist entered the MACC office at 11.20am, while lawyers and the DPP went in 10 minutes later. A police forensics team arrived at 11.40am.

teoh inquest frontimage 01 Tan later said the forensics team had finished its investigations at 2.30pm and vouched that the findings would be tendered at the inquest tomorrow.

However, he refused to give details on what had been found.

The forensic team scoured the 14th and 15th floors with the help of chemist and forensics consultant Amidon Anan. They again went to the spot where Teoh's body was found.

Gobind said a full report will be released tomorrow, but that the stains found on the 14th floor are believed to be anti-rust solution and not blood.

"Three tests were done by our local and foreign experts from Thailand to verify this," he said.

"We used this opportunity to revisit the crime scene for the benefit of the foreign experts."

Some new thread and fibre specimens were found during the second sweep of the area, and experts will release more information on these, he added.

A bouquet of white flowers was left in front of the building with a handwritten note in English. Addressed to Teoh, it expresses the wish that he will rest in peace and watch over his fiancee and unborn child. It was signed 'Sunshine and friend'.

Forensic personnel here

The Thai personnel, spotted in the public gallery this morning, said they are colleagues of respected pathologist Porntip Rojanasunan, who has been engaged by the Selangor government to examine the pathology report on Teoh’s death.

Tan and DPP Mohd Abazafreee Mohd Abbas, along with Gobind, met Azmil in chambers before the proceedings began today. Three government pathologists are scheduled to take the stand today.

Last Thursday, Gobind revealed that his team had sent pathologists reports and other documents for a second opinion to two specialists - one in Thailand and the other in Australia. He said that they may be asked to testify at the inquest if necessary.

NONE Teoh was found dead on July 16 on the fifth floor landing of Plaza Masalam, following interrogation by the MACC.

He was political secretary to Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah and a witness in the investigation into the alleged abuse of constituency development funds by several Selangor Pakatan Rakyat state assemblypersons. They include Ean Yong.

The inquest began on Aug 5 and has heard testimony from employees working in the building. Last Friday, the court conducted a site visit to the scene of the incident.

Gobind is representing Teoh's family along with Sankara Nair, while Tan is assisted by Mohd Abazafree. Cheow Wee and Richard Wee are assigned to hold a watching brief for the Bar Council.

Meanwhile the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) said that it had "discussed in great detail" the Teoh matter at its meeting today and decided to seek more information from the governmentregarding the royal commission of inquiry.

"Upon receiving a response from the chief secretary, Suhakam will determine its course of action at its next meeting soon," the commission said in a statement.
