MCA president Ong Tee Keat had his statements recorded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the Port Klang Free Zone scandal and for allegedly receiving a controversial RM10 million donation.

NONE Speaking to reporters later, Ong (left) confirmed that this was the first time he was called in by the MACC regarding the two issues.

Ong, who is also Transport Minister, arrived at about 10am at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya and left at about 1.30pm.

He was accompanied only by his political secretary Simon Lim.

Asked if his lawyers were present during the process, Ong appeared bemused and replied: "Why should I need a lawyer?"

Ong said he briefed the MACC officers about the chronology of both incidents but did not furnish any documents, adding that he would provide them when asked to do so.

May return tomorrow

He said there was a possibility that he would be required to come back tomorrow to give more statements.

NONE Since taking over the Transport Ministry last October, he commissioned an audit on the PKFZ which has unearthed a slew of irregularities, among others, involving the Port Klang Authority and turnkey-contractor Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd.

Kuala Dimensi's owner Tiong King Sing later cried foul over the audit and subsequent probes, claiming that his company was never allowed to defend itself at any time.

Following this, Tiong revealed details of how Ong had allegedly sought RM10 million from him last year and also used private jets owned by one of his companies.

These allegations have cast doubts over Ong's credibility in carrying out an independent probe in the PKFZ scandal.
