An empty shell awaits G Palanivel when his boss MIC president S Samy Vellu exits his post, claimed his former protégé P Chithirakala Vasu.

Responding to a Malaysiakini article on his ( Samy Vellu ) bowing out after 30 years in the post, she alleged that the former intends to take the party's past successful ventures with him.

She listed them as the party's educational arm Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) and its subsidiary Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST) University.

"He (Samy Vellu) said that he will keep himself busy with the six of seven non-governmental organisations that he had established.

P Chithirakala Vasu "As I have said before, he is talking about MIED and AIMST as well as the co-operatives that he leads," said Chithirakala ( left ), adding that MIED, valued at RM1 billion, is MIC's crown jewel.

Samy Vellu also heads two of the largest co-operatives in the country, the Workers Housing Cooperation Society (KPJ) and Education Cooperative Society, Koperasi Didik.

Chithirakala had earlier said that the MIC bigwig was plotting to hold onto his position in MIED and take it with him after losing his parliamentary seat in last year's general election.

"The bulk of the RM1 billion is in AMIST and now that he is the chancellor of the university, he wants to remain there and as the chairman of MIED...(and) the only way is to remove MIED from MIC," she had said.

She had also accused Samy Vellu of plotting to replace her with his son, Vel Paari, the CEO of Maika Holdings, a failed investment arm of MIC.

'It is happening as I had predicted'

The feud between two, began in December when Chithrakala, who had led MIED for 14 years, was told to go on leave early this year pending an internal investigation into several alleged mismanagement involving maintenance contracts of AIMST .

samy vellu Samy Vellu had accused her of allegedly misappropriating MIED funds, in turn Chithirakala had charged the former with attempting to hijack MIED and allegedly dipping into the 2004 tsunami relief funds.

Although police investigated their claims, the outcome remains unknown while the civil suit in which Samy Vellu has accused her of misappropriating MIED funds is still pending in court.

She is also fighting her wrongful dismissal as the CEO of MIED case in the industrial court.

"Now it is happening just as I had predicted," said Chithirakala, adding that she has won round one in the legal battle against Samy Vellu, successfully setting aside the injunction taken by him to freeze all her bank accounts as well those of her family members, friends and their companies on Sept 17

"I don't want the failure which happened to Maika to be repeated with MIED," she said.

Samy Vellu had obtained that order through MIED on July 7.

High Court Judge Zaharah Ibrahim set aside that injunction and awarded costs and damages to Chithirakala.

"He wanted to cripple us... but we won," she told Malaysiakini .

However, the fight is not over yet as the judgment can appealed against within has 30 days.
