The following are reactions to the results of the MCA extraordinary general meeting that have shocked both sides of the Ong-Chua feud.

CC member Liew Yuen Keong (Ong supporter)

The EGM result is a surprise to me and other members. The voting, as it turned out, sidelined both Ong Tee Keat from the presidency and Chua Soi Lek from the deputy post.

The results may be due to the dissatisfaction of the new generation of leadership in the party who are dissatisfied with both Ong and Chua.

The no-confidence vote against Ong has not passed by a two-third majority. It is not compulsory for him to resign.

CC member Loh Seng Kok (Chua supporter)

I don’t think the Third Force want both Ong and Chua out, but the motions were too detailed, to the point some people took advantage of it.

Ong should know what to do, especially since he had lost the no-confidence vote. Those central committee members appointed by Ong should also know what to do.

The EGM is a victory for the Chua faction, because the results has proved that the presidential council’s sacking of Chua was wrong, and delegates want him to come back.

More than 1,000 delegates wanted Chua to continue as deputy president. This showed they still stand firm behind him. But we need to further discuss this, because this is not one person's decision.

Secretary-general Wong Fong Meng (Ong supporter)

We will announce the repercussions of the passing of the first resolution at a later time. The central committee will also decide on whether Ong should step down.

With the passing of resolution two and three, Chua is an ordinary member but no longer deputy president.

We have not yet decided when the central committee meeting.

MCA Wanita chief Ng Yen Yen (undeclared allegiance)

I am not shocked by this decision, it has been expected. I will talk to the other vice-presidents about the future of the party.

Former vice-president Donald Lim (undeclared allegiance)

Ong should resign as president within 48 hours.
