vox populi big thumbnail ‘It is a reactive move. No doubt about it. The 'opposition' has been calling for a holiday on Sept 16 for quite sometime. Now, the BN has hijacked that proposal.’

Public holiday for Sept 16

Yobama: It is a reactive move. No doubt about it. The 'opposition' (anything not BN is 'opposition' right? even in the Pakatan-controlled states) has been calling for a holiday on Sept 16 for quite sometime.

Now the BN has hijacked that proposal. In academia, when you copy, you are said to ‘plagiarise’. You ain’t original.

Anyway, I have no qualms about uniting Malaysia through this new holiday.

But I propose also that other less important holidays be removed. Yes, I agree with many that we have far too many holidays in Malaysia.

Productivity is not the issue – but 'total production' is. Productivity is about output per worker in a given time (eg, per hour) whereas total production is output per worker multiplied by the number of workers and number of hours worked.

I am sure some holidays can be scrapped. As a Muslim, I don't mind not having holiday on ‘Israk-mikraj’, ‘Nuzul quran’ etc as even Saudia Arabia does not observe them.

Samasama: Mr PM, the last time you spoke about ‘1Malaysia’, I did comment that the first thing that needed to be done was to recognise and honour Sept 16 as ‘Malaysia Day’ which is to be celebrated by all Malaysians.

Where all can consider themselves as participants in the celebration, unlike the celebration on Aug 31 where all Sarawakians and Sabahans are just mere spectators.

If there is nothing else, your concern and recognition of the real Malaysia Day earns your goodself a very positive difference from all past PMs. Many thanks for that.

We are also looking forward to seeing more of the genuine signs of your advocation of the ‘1Malaysia’ concept from now on.

Deva Guru: And this shows why we need a balance in Parliament!

Mental tests put off over lawyers' presence

Allan Kong Sin Foong: I have a better solution to solve Teoh Beng Hock’s case. Why not get a medium to conjure up Teoh’s spirit to tell us his story?

Kgen: Mental tests to determine the state of mind of another person who is already deceased? What's the rationale in this piece of stupidity?

This is nothing more than a bald-faced attempt to pin ‘suicide’ on Teoh. Go ahead, declare a suicide verdict and be done with it.

Malaysians know he was murdered and no amount of spinning will change that.

Lim Cheng Inn: It looks like a game of deceit. What is there for the doctor to fear in the presence of Teoh's family lawyer?

Just do your evaluation if there is one to be done.

To Teoh Beng Hock's family especially to his wife, do not allow the ‘hidden’ hands to cow you from seeking justice.

All true Malaysians are watching and are supporting your family. Remember, you are not alone.

Ku Li, why are you still in Umno?

Peter Yew: The man is clearly a sentimentalist. Given a choice and a chance to change the political landscape, he could have dented Umno and awakened it to change its money culture.

This by swinging over to PKR to join Zaid Ibrahim who invited him some two months ago. Sadly, Ku Li gave Zaid no chance and the door shut on him.

History may prove this to be Ku Li's biggest mistake - foregoing the only chance left in his sunset years to make a difference that he could have - but did not.

'1Malaysia': Gov't seeks input from public

Kanesin SVS Sappania Pillay: After 52 years of BN rule, Koh Tsu Koon and Idris Jala should know that the basis for unity is power-sharing among Malaysians and equal opportunity for all Malaysians.

‘People first’ must be devoid of race and performance must be based on merit.

Loyal Malaysian: Is this back-door minister for real? Still needs feedback for the public on what will make ‘1Malaysia’ click instead of being an empty slogan?

Goes to show how in touch with reality these Umnoputras are.

Tan Min Fui: Get rid of NEP. Get rid of bumiputera status. These two issues are the main obstacles in achieving unity.

If the government does not heed the call to rid the nation of these, then it's pointless to ask for suggestions.

Ikmal:
