It is ‘a mystery’ why no action has been taken against private investigator P Balasubramaniam who made startling allegations linking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, said Batu member of parliament Tian Chua today.

He demanded that the police and the attorney-general explain their motives in allowing Balasubramaniam to move in and out of the country freely.

The PKR parliamentarian was referring to the video interview posted on YouTube where Balasubramaniam ( right ) claimed that he was offered RM5 million by one 'Deepak' to retract his first statutory declaration on July 1 containing the explosive allegations against the PM.

Balasubramaniam fled the country with his family on July 5 and was never heard of until yesterday when he appeared in the video interview.

During the interview, Balasubramaniam suggested that this 'Deepak' was closely linked to Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor.

‘Public misled’

It is unsure who conducted the interview, believed to have taken place in India, but it was indicated that the clip was merely the first in a series of interviews with Balasubramaniam.

“It has been almost eight months (since Balasubramaniam’s disappearance was brought up in Parliament) and the AG and the police have been quiet on the issue,” Chua told reporters at Parliament House.

“What is their motive? Why aren't they taking action against him? If Balasubramaniam made a false statutory declaration, why isn't there any legal action being taken against him?” asked Chua.

He claimed that the police and the AG had misled the public deliberately by not being transparent over the matter. He urged the authorities to come clean on the issue.
