Several Molotov cocktails were thrown into the home of a prominent lawyer in what is believed to be related to the 'interviews' with private investigator P Balasubramaniam published and aired on Youtube recently.

In a statement issued yesterday, former Bar Council president Manjeet Singh Dhillon who is currently away in London with his family, said that his home in Damansara Heights was attacked at 7.20pm last night.

The resulting fire damage to the garage wall of his house. A police report is believed to have been lodged by his friends over the incident.

NONE According to Manjeet ( left ), the incident may be a "warning and threat" to him and his family over his presence at a recent recording of the interview with Balasubramaniam.

"It is tragic. Those who have elected to issue such threats have failed to appreciate that lawyers have a role to play in the discharge of their professional duties," said Manjeet.

However, he asserted that his presence at the interview was to act as Americk Sidhu's lawyer, who had acted for Balasubramaniam in the making of his first statutory declaration.

"My presence and role in this interview was apolitical and was to ensure the integrity and the voluntary nature of the interview," said Manjeet.

"I have, for the last 39 years of my role as a lawyer, maintained neutrality. I have no affiliation or ties to any political party or faction," he added.

Shocking statutory declaration

Last year, Balasubramaniam stunned the nation when, in a statutory declaration dated July 1, 2008, he alleged that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was sexually involved with murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Among others, he claimed that prosecutors and the police were ordered to remove evidence linking Najib to Altantuya's murder.

azlan His statutory declaration was read out at a press conference on July 3, but he retracted it, substituting it with another one the following day under strange circumstances.

He then fled the country with his family on July 5, 2008 and was never seen in public until recently when he appeared in an online video interview on popular video sharing website Youtube.

In the interview, Balasubramaniam alleged that he was offered RM5 million by one 'Deepak' to retract his first statutory declaration.

Rolling text on the video suggests that 'Deepak' was linked to first lady Rosmah Mansor and that the interview was conducted on Oct 27 in the presence of three Malaysian lawyers, one of whom was Manjeet Singh Dhillon.
