After Wan Azizah, mischief makers target Azmin

Following the recent intrusion by a parang-wielding man into Keadilan president's house early last week, matters come to light now that party vice-president Azmin Ali, too, had been subjected to similar annoyances.

The Hulu Kelang state assemblyperson told malaysiakini that his family had to face unwanted distress in the recent past.

In the latest incident, which occurred at about 5.30pm last Saturday, a vehicle parked outside his house was wrecked by some unknown persons.

"The car belonged to my guests who were on a visit. Just as we were sitting down for tea, we heard a loud bang," Azmin said.

He added that when he and his guests raced out, they saw the car's windscreen and side mirrors shattered but no one was around.

"They even badly damaged the body of the car," added Azmin.

"This really disturbed me a lot as it is not the first time such a thing has happened."

He said that in the past two months, there had been attempts by unknown persons to enter into his rented bungalow in Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur.

"The attempts were foiled by the presence of my boys," said Azmin.

Office broken into

He also said that these unknown persons had successfully entered into his office in Hulu Kelang and had taken away only his discs and the central processing unit (CPU) of his personal computer early this year.

"They did not touch anything else. They are not normal burglars. These are people with bad intentions."

When asked if he had lodged police reports on any of the incidents, Azmin said that he had not done so "for good reasons".

"We will just monitor the situation and take more steps to be extra careful," he added.

On June 3, a man armed with parang had entered and created havoc inside party president Wan Azizah Ismail's house in Bukit Damansara. In the process, the man, J Jayamages, had destroyed the patio glass door, a television set and a showcase in the living room — the damage was estimated to be worth RM30,000.

Wan Azizah and her four children were in the house then and had barricaded themselves in one of the rooms.

Attempts to intimidate

Wan Azizah had told malaysiakini that prior to this attack, there had been other harassments — including, in one case, by Jayamages — which she believes were attempts to intimidate her from performing her duties as an opposition member.

She complained that the police had not taken any action to beef up security despite police reports lodged over the harassments.

She added that on May 25, the guardhouse in front of her house was vandalised. Other incidents included tree branches and pots being thrown into her compound, resulting in a dent in her car.

As for Jayamages, he has claimed trial at the magistrates court for trespassing with the intention of causing hurt and damage. If found guilty, he faces a maximum seven year jail term, plus a fine.
