The People's Progressive Party (PPP) will be serving a notice to T Murugiah tomorrow to ask him to vacate his deputy minister post within 14 days, said its president M Kayveas.

kayveas murugiah ppp Kayveas said the deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department should resign as he had obtained the post when he was still a member of the party.

Murugiah was sacked from the party on May 16 this year.

Kayveas also said the party would be holding an open contest for all Malaysians to design a new logo for PPP.

First, second and third prize winners will respectively receive RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM1,000 while RM500 will be given to three consolation prize winners.

Details on the contest will be made availabe at www.ppp.org.my beginning Dec 7.

PKR duo join Umno

In an unrelated development, PKR Papar (Sabah) division secretary Awang Mumin Awang Marali and its Youth chief Faizal Julaili, who is also state PKR Youth chief, have quit PKR to join Umno.

The duo handed in their membership application forms to join Umno to Papar Umno chief Abdul Rahim Ismail, who is also Pantai Manis assemblyperson, at two separate functions here today.

They were given a rousing welcome by local residents and Kampung Buang Sayang and Kampung Benoni here when they handed in the forms.

Abdul Rahim said their joining Umno showed the people had lost confidence in opposition parties and that it was only the Barisan Nasional and Umno that could ensure their progress. - Bernama
