'At least Bala has come clean about the bribery'

MACC to probe allegations against Najib's brother

Louis: P Balasubramaniam said he was offered RM5 million. So far he had just received only RM750,000. He is honest to admit that he did receive bribes, not like some leaders who are convicted of corruption and yet wanting to preach moral and integrity to the public.

Kgan: Asking MACC to investigate this is like asking Dracula to investigate that his vampires have been naughty. Anybody who thinks anything will come out of this is a citizen of la-la land.

Wong Chee Kong: There are just too many probes that have faded away and forgotten. Maybe we should have probes to probe these probes. But then again, how certain are we that the later probes will not end up the same way as the earlier probes. Then we have to initiate some more probes to probe the later probes that probe the earlier probes.

Mamboking: When we have no other choice, we have to report to MACC even if we know the outcome. They will investigate. The result will be ‘not enough evidence', then Bala goes to jail for reporting a false SD (statutory declaration). It's the same old modus operandi . Kill the messenger!

Pete: This is exactly what MACC wants someone to do - make a report so that they can investigate. Little do you know that they have already investigated Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, and he has come out clean. Trust me, corruption is a game of finesse. Where you can do it, it can be legal. MACC will investigate this case, but where are the witnesses. Bala is not here. Who else?

Paul Warren: Why should this be reported in the mainstream media? If your world revolved only around the mainstream media and this investigation is now reported, would you not be stunned and wondered what they are talking about? Because if they did not report the content of the latest Balasubramaniam video interviews then all this did not happen. So how do you report on something that did not happen?

You see, if my world revolved around what MSM (mainstream media) reports, Balasubramaniam remains hidden somewhere incommunicado abroad.

'Unlawful sacking': Last chance for Anwar

Yobama: I see that the majority have no faith in the judiciary doing a decent job at upholding justice. Why is this perception so pervasive? Because of the recent judgments most of which were not in favour of people opposed to the BN/Umno regime.

It appears that the judges are selected for their pro-BN stance. Independent judges (if there are any left) are not selected to hear cases of a political nature and significance. So, Anwar Ibrahim, unless you have unlimited funds stashed away somewhere, forget about fighting your case before the Malaysian judiciary.

Anyway, even if you win, the court is not likely to reinstate you as the deputy prime minister, since Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is not likely to replace his chosen No 2 buddy with you (his nemesis). What are you looking for, anyway? Money or position? Just concentrate on Pakatan Rakyat's agenda of capturing Putrajaya in the next general election.

Karrlos: It's a ‘win-win' situation for Anwar Ibrahim. If he wins, Dr Mahathir Mohamad is going to have diarrhoea and if he loses, BN loses votes in the next general election.

Pete: Anwar has spent all of his time in the courts, suing everybody and anybody. It brings to mind one dictator who sued anybody if they slandered him or his party, Lee Kuan Yew. The people can see clearly that Anwar has been fighting battles for himself and not for the people's livelihoods or issues important to them.

One wonders what else he does for a living. Maybe the one ringgit he gets from the Selangor will help him pay for the lawyers or do they work for free? I believe that the lawyers know that when he is prime minister, he will return the favour to them.

P Dev Anand Pillai: The end result looks like a foregone conclusion. The quorum is made up of the most conservative of judges. There is no hope left for the judiciary to redeem itself and regain its independence. The trailblazers in the High Court have all been transferred into ‘cold storage' divisions and they will be kept there until they repent or retire, whichever comes first.

So it is not a very honourable to become a judge anymore, unless of course one is willing to become an ‘automaton-type' judge. To those great legal minds out there - don't dishonour yourself by wanting to join the judiciary. Your expertise is more needed elsewhere, where you will be honoured and appreciated for your abilities and independence.

Sugar price hike: Bitter pill for business folk as well

Fly Emirates: I really wonder whether anyone in the government has done any analysis on the effects of the sugar hike on the Malaysian food industry and how this will affect our export competitiveness.

I reckon the price increase will force many export-oriented biscuit, beverage, and confectionery manufacturers to raise their prices. Funny there does not seem to be anyone in government who can give intelligent explanations, backed up with analytical reports, on price hike consequences for these affected segments.

Tornado: I think that by removing subsidies for sugar, the government can save money, but this also results in more money for them (the powers-that-be) to distribute among themselves. So in short, they will try all means to collect as much money as they can before they are knocked out of power during the next general election.

Suhakam: The ‘Robin Hood' from Bolehland takes from the poor and gives to the cronies. Only BN can do this. They should educate the public about the dangers of high sugar intake and not further burden their lives.
