Suspended Gerakan vice-president Huan Cheng Guan said he will join the newly-formed Parti Cinta Malaysia if his suspension is not lifted within the next 10 days.

"I'm giving them an ultimatum. Either lift my ban or I leave," he said.

Last week, Huan gave Gerakan leadership a two-week ultimatum to lift his three-year ban from the party.

Huan justified his call by bringing up Umno's lifting of former Bukit Bendera division chairperson Ahmad Ismail's three-year ban on Dec 4.

"I plan to join Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM)," said the former Batu Kawan parliamentarian.

Huan said he preferred PCM to other more established parties to rekindle and rejuvenate his political career.

Asked if such a move would jeopardise his current position as the BN backbenchers' club executive secretary, he said he would relinquish the post if told to do so.

He pointed out that his position in the backbenchers' club was an independent BN appointment, notwithstanding his political position in Gerakan.

Huan was suspended for three years since June this year by Gerakan leadership following his stinging criticism of Dr Teng Hock Nan's state leadership.

Enemies within the party

Apart from Teng, Huan sees Gerakan national delegates'conference chairperson Chin Fook Weng as his other political nemesis.

He accused both Teng and Chin of monopolising party power in Penang and thwarting the emergence of promising young leaders.

He said Chin and Dr Teng were the main perpetuators behind his suspension.

He described Dr Teng ( left ) and Chin as "worn out recycled items". "These two men were the main causes for Gerakan downfall in Penang in the last election," said Huan.

He singled out Chin as a "backdoor leader who would dare not contest in an election."

He claimed that Chin had always been an "unelected leader" without grassroots support. All Chin's posts, says Huan, were obtained through currying favour with the party leadership.

Huan challenged Chin to contest in Penang in the next election.

"He would not dare to contest because he knows he would lose badly, even his deposit."

As long as Teng and Chin continue to dominate Gerakan, said Huan, the party "can only dream" of recapturing Penang from the DAP.
