Jet engines: 'Watch out for excuses by gov't'

your say 'While we wait to hear the whole story, we should not be surprised if the government comes up with its typical ‘excuse' later on to say that it cannot reveal all because of this and that.'

Stolen jet engines: Gov't to tell all next month

Yuvan: The government to tell all? Really? Well, the government should have told all it knew about this scam a long time ago, especially since it discovered the theft more than a year ago and claims to have been investigating the incident for many months now.

The theft was huge (in terms of value and the sheer logistics used in moving the stolen goods out of Malaysia) and it happened in a high-profile and highly-sensitive security environment (the armed forces).

If the government is really serious about revealing all it knows, then it should move with the urgency the issue warrants and clearly show its determination to nail all the culprits.

And while we wait to hear the whole story from the government, we should not be surprised if it comes up with its typical ‘excuse' later on to say that it cannot reveal all because that will jeopardise investigations and/or court proceedings (that is, if and when all the people involved are finally charged).

Mythots: It is a confirmed fact that the jet engines were stolen from the TUDM (air force) base. Who else is responsible besides the perperators of this theft? Why was this incident not revealed earlier to the people? Why didn't the auditor-general's last report include this item as missing in its audit?

Why was a police report not lodged as soon as the engines were discovered missing? Why is it taking so long for the police to investigate and to bring to book those involved?

So many questions but sadly, not enough answers. What is the protocol for such a situation and what action is being taken for the recovery of the two stolen jet engines?

Don't expect the people to provide the answers as this is the job of the government that we elected. A blunder took place and it is time to answer the questions the rakyat are asking.

Doc: Are you sure that one month is enough time for BN/Umno to come up with a really credible, believable and acceptable reason for the missing jet engines and why BN parliamentarians were missing in action at the tabling of the 2010 budget in Parliament?

I would advise the Umno boys to appoint a new spin doctor to come up with believable excuses/ reasons that will be palatable to the rakyat. The rakyat are not dumb, so please don't get a dumb spin doctor to give us stories.

Tan Hong Kiet: They need more time to cook up another story to cover this treacherous fiasco. Come on, Mr Minister, this is the Information Age. You can't hide anymore. Ten or twenty years ago, you could fool the rakyat, but not now.

Mark Chin: The missing jet engines, the Port Klang Free Zone scam, the missing private investigator, the death of Teoh Beng Hock, the extension of the Approved Permit scheme to 2015, the Perak takeover, the sodomy charge against Anwar Ibrahim, etc, and of course ‘1Malaysia'. Yes, minister, Malaysians are all very confused.

Lin Wen Quan: I am not going to be excited by whatever BN is going to explain about their sins of omission, least of all about the stolen jet engines. It will be more of the same nonsense they dish out to us every time something goes wrong. They are working feverishly to spin a tall tale hoping the people will swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Please wake up. We are not stupid. I can almost predict the line - some RMAF personnel stole the engines, falsified the paperwork and he was abetted by some airport workers. Voila! The fat cat culprits get away scot-free to enjoy the RM100 million!

Wira: The people are confused with the government because jet engines went missing despite earlier promises to tighten security and follow procedures within the armed forces. Why blame the opposition for ‘confusing' the issue?

Kanasai: You lost two jet engines under your nose and after more than one year, the report is still not ready for an immediate release and yet you claim the opposition confuses the people. You are a disgrace to the country. Spare us your stupidity and enjoy your last term in office.

Varvoom: ‘Next month' is in two days time, right? Or is it next year? Which is also in a couple of days time.

Top cop: Missing engines report resubmitted to AG

Tan Teng Wah: The interaction of the police with attorney-general is just like the right hand shaking the left hand.

Dr Jacob George: In layman's language - same old story, same old spin, same old incompetence and worst - perhaps, same old result? Embarrassing, to put it mildly!
