The PRM Youth elections at the wing's national congress in Kuala Lumpur today saw incumbent Faisal Sanusi retained as its chief and former committee member Latheefa Koya elected as deputy.

After a five-hour meeting, the delegates elected a 20-member committee with Jonson Chong and Kamarul Aiza Adnan as vice-chiefs.

In his speech earlier, Faisal said that the impending merger with Keadilan should not prevent the party from improving itself.

"Whether we are going to merge or not, we should work hard to develop the party. We should not just wait for the merger.

"The merger should also not be an excuse for us to stay away from the party," Faisal told the 50-odd delegates present.

Delegates at the Youth wing's 10th national congress also passed several resolutions related to the party's organisation, including the pledge to fight for equality and justice that transcends race, gender, religion and social status.

To do this, the delegates decided on an intensive campaign to repeal all laws that discriminate based on gender, race and religion.

They also voted on a resolution to establish a just system to enhance the social-economic status of those who are poor and marginalised.

The delegates said they want to establish a Malaysian society that is free, fair and progressive from all aspects.

Special committee set up

A special committee to draft new regulations to strategise the party's struggles was also agreed upon.

However, the delegates did not agree to adopt a new logo to indicate dynamism and modernism in the Youth's wing.

Delegates that form the central committee will meet tomorrow for the party's 35th national congress.

The top leadership is expected to see some changes with younger leaders taking centre-stage.

Observers say tomorrow's elections is important as it may be the party's last congress.

PRM is expected to merge with Keadilan soon as the latter has come out with a memorandum to lobby support from its members to back the merger.

The merger was stalled for a year as Keadilan failed to obtained a two-third at its annual general meeting to amend the party's constitution.

If the merger goes through, PRM is expected to dissolve and its members join Keadilan en bloc .
