The government has banned one of Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue's music videos along with almost 200 other films and videos for contributing to rising crime, a report said today.

The Film Censorship Board has issued a list of 195 banned titles, including Kylie's "Live in Sydney" music video, according to The Star newspaper.

Board chairman Shaari Mohamad Noor was quoted as saying that the films had contributed to the country's rising crime rate, including rape.

"In order for us to instil good morals and values in our people, we have to stop importing films that are not appropriate for our country," Shaari said.

Offensive content

He did not give details of the films' offensive content but said the move was in line with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's call for Malaysians to "hold on to good values and preserve the family institution."

Others on the blacklist include top sitcom Ally McBeal's "Queen Bee", popular comedy Friends' "The Video Tape" as well as "But I'm a Cheerleader" episodes.

Distributors and owners of the banned titles face a maximum fine of RM30,000 ringgit and up to three years in jail. &8212 AFP
