Another 12 books published by Kinibooks, a subsidiary of Malaysiakini , have been seized from bookstores in Negri Sembilan and Johor Bahru.

This is the latest blitz by the police in a series of raids over the past few weeks.

Last Friday, 22 copies of ‘Where is Justice?' and ' 1Funny Malaysia ' comic books were taken from Popular Book Store in Seremban by Special Investigation Divisions officers.

When contacted at the time, special investigation officer Bobby Bana said the order had been issued by the Negri Sembilan police headquarters.

Stressing that the books are not banned items, he explained that seizure is to enable police officers to "analyse their content".

It is understood that the books are being studied for any seditious content that could compromise harmony.

Last month, 74 copies of the books were seized in Malacca and Penang.

The Home Ministry's Publication Control and Quranic Text Division confirmed the seizure on Jan 29.

Cartoonist not deterred

‘1Funny Malaysia' is a compilation of cartoons by Zunar, while ‘Where is Justice?' is about death or brutality in police custody focusing on four prominent cases - Teoh Beng Hock, A Kugan, Altantuya Shaariibuu, and Anwar Ibrahim.

"I firmly believe that the action is purely politically motivated. I am sure no action will be taken if the content sides with the ruling (coalition)," he said in a press statement today.

"As a cartoonist, I will not stop exposing the wrongdoings of the authorities. In fact I have just released a new cartoon book called ‘Sumpah di Bumi Komisyen' which highlights the same issues albeit in a different light."
