'Altantuya to forever haunt us'

vox populi small thumbnail 'As long as questions regarding the case are avoided by the powers-that-be, the legitimacy of the court proceedings will marred by this cover up.'

Karpal to govt: 'Be compassionate, host Dr Shaariibuu'

Lahore San: The question of who ordered the police to make the hit on Altantuya Shaariibuu will forever be foremost on the people's minds. Whatever show they put up in the courts, as long as this question is avoided by the powers-that-be, the legitimacy of the court proceedings will marred.

Yobama: It appears that the two found guilty of the murder didn't have any motive of their own. Their motive was to obey orders. Isn't that a good enough motive? Who gave the orders? The Royal Malaysian Police Force is not interested in that.

A ‘new law' that they created doesn't require them to show motive for a killing. Perhaps their motive was to have some fun and practice the use of C4? Isn't that a valid enough motive?

KayKay: The two cops were found guilty of murdering Altantuya. The question of who ordered them to do so remains unaddressed. This will continue to fuel no end of speculation since a close aide of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was said to be involved.

From the close aide, Abdul Razak Baginda, it's just a hop, skip and a jump to Najib himself, who has denied any involvement. Blanket denials won't do. Former prime ministerDr Mahathir Mohamad, Najib's biggest fan, in a candid moment, once said that Najib should clear his name. After that he (Mahathir), too, clammed up.

Maybe Najib thinks that there is no way that he will be found linked to Altantuya. The private investigator P Balasubramaniam has made several revelations which have all been ignored. Next, there will be a book out on the Altantuya killing if there hasn't already been one done already.

A movie is said to be in the works. Such public documentation along with the numerous reports in the print media and in cyberspace including blogs and social networking sites like Facebook will further tarnish the reputation of Najib and, by extension, Umno.

Nik Aziz: Zahrain should quit as MP

Bosco Philip Anthony: The voters of Zahrain Mohd Hashim's constituency can move a motion of no-confidence, which must be supported by a majority and published on the Internet. Then Zahrain would have no choice but to resign.

Parameswara: This guy has a high degree of ‘maruah' (dignity) of a different kind, one that is 'ethical' and 'accountable' to the voters. ‘1Malaysia' needs more of such characters to project Malaysia as world-class global player.

New land policy for Orang Asli: boon or bane?

Inspector Closseau: Kampung Baru residents, please learn from this Orang Asli episode. Don't be too happy until all legal aspects of the deal are ironed out.

Siva: The Orang Asli are the true owners of the land. Now they are colonised by the Malays who came from everywhere else. The Malays say the others are too demanding. But look at the way the Orang Asli are treated.

Gong Xi Fa Cai from Malaysiakini

David Dass: ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai' to all! Celebrating the traditions of all races has always been a big thing in this country. Here I do not mean the huge government-sponsored binges, but the neighbourhood celebrations where cakes and food are sent to neighbours and friends.

And where houses are open to friends of other races and where everyone really has a good time. There is genuine respect and acceptance of the traditions of others and no one took a negative view of another's beliefs and practices. What an exciting Malaysia that was when that happened!

We must bring that all back. This country was and still could be a wonderful country. A happy country, as Tunku Abdul Rahman always wanted it to be. We must reclaim it from the likes of Ibrahim Ali and Nasir Safar.

Cala: ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai' to everyone. As one wise guy said, take a break here to prepare us for the longer distance.

Lee Suan Bin: May the year of the Golden Tiger bring joy, togetherness and most of all, justice to all Malaysians. ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai'!

Keturunan Malaysia: ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai' to everyone and to each and every good seeker of truth, justice, peace and freedom.

Magnus: I would like to wish everyone a very happy Chinese New Year of the Golden Tiger. May the year of this beautiful big cat provide more courage for Malaysians to clear the path to a transformational 13th general elections..
