'Your Highness, we beg to differ'

your say 'His Majesty should also weigh in on mainstream media like Utusan Malaysia which spews racial garbage on a daily basis.'

Agong: Lies, distortion in new media

Ghkok: Yes, I agree with the Agong. Some of these racist bloggers and cybertroopers are really disgusting. The you-know-who racial supremacists, the type that instigate the burning of churches. These are examples of the "irresponsible new media" that the Agong spoke about. The Agong is wise.

Wira: I beg to differ. It's the old media which is lying and spinning half-truths. The new media is providing a balance. Tuanku's speech is prepared by the government. It may not reflect his own position.

Loyal Malaysian: A constitutional monarch doing his prescribed duty of praising the government of the day. What about the venom and lies spew forth by the mainstream media? Silence...

Kleo: Either His Majesty is seriously out of touch with reality, or he's running errands for Umno... or both. In any case, I know who I've lost any shred of respect for.

4thGPendatang: How about the lies spewed continuously by Utusan Malaysia , New Straits Times , The Star , RTM and NTV7 ?

Sabahan: His Majesty should also weigh in on mainstream media like Utusan Malaysia which spews racial garbage on a daily basis.

Lim Chong Leong: Tuanku, why didn't you say anything when Utusan Malaysia made all those false reports? Are you now jumping just because the inspector-general of police is now involved? Is this a case of tasting one's own medicine? Ampun Tuanku.

Arul Inthirarajah: Perhaps Tuanku has already cancelled his subscription to Utusan , as he has not seen the continuous spewing of racist vitriol in that rag.

Eugene : The new media such as Malaysiakini and the Malaysian Insider are more trustworthy compared to our mass media. The worst offender among them is Utusan . His Majesty would be more endearing to the rakyat if he had reprimanded such offending materials by U tusan .

The 'new media' like Malaysiakini , MalaysiaInsider and MalaysiaToday are professional media that backs its news with credible sources and witnesses. Reporting on racially-incorrect statements and actions by ministers and civil servants should not be considered a crime.

Keturunan Malaysia: News media like Malaysiakini must be super extra careful with their news reporting because they do not have a blanket insurance cover and they will be hammered hard by the powers-that-be given the slightest opportunity. They are being constantly and zealously watched and monitored.

Thus, there is absolutely no room for them "to demean others to the extent of inflaming conflict and inciting racial sentiments". Can the same be said of the usual mainstream media?

Satinah Osman: If there is anyone or any medium that is spreading lies and slanders, it is Umno and BN big wigs and their mouthpieces. They have fine tuned the art of misleading the naive public.

However, there are more educated citizens on the streets and more means to get far more reliable information. The information minister should be happy to note that very few citizens read the daily newspapers, anymore, or watch TV1, TV2 or TV3. Time can be spent more meaningfully by looking at domestic and overseas on websites.

Since the new media have been warned by the king, it would be most interesting to see who are the ones to be targeted.

Dr Zafar Shah: Tuanku, thank you and all Malaysians for generously allowing us foreigners to stay and work in Malaysia. According Tuanku's advice, I humbly requested the authorities to take severe action on the mainstream media like The Star the writer of the letter 'Ban foreign workers' for inciting hatred of foreign workers in Malaysia.

Foo Fighters: What about the lies and distortion by the media of the death of those in police custody like A Kugan, Teoh Beng Hock and many more? I think stern action should also be taken to those who spread lies or mix lies with the truth.

Teh Kee-Keat: The royal address has only brought more questions to my mind: Has there or has not there been abuse of the royal institution itself? Has there or has not there been abuse of the other media?

Are the flip-flop events surrounding real property gains tax, the tiered fuel subsidy, the New Economic Model and the Goods and Services Tax? What about the conflict-inflaming and inciting statements of those at the top of the federal government?

MKini Reader: For the opening of the UK Parliament, the Queen's speech is written by the government of the day and spells out the government's legislative programmes for the session. There is no commentary on the issues to be handled by the government nor praises for the prime minister or the party. The Queen being a constitutional monarch is apolitical.

In Malaysia, the position of the constitutional monarchy has been abused into becoming the mouthpiece of the ruling party. Shame.

Sentinel: Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi . Another sad day for Bolehland. My last hope in an institution to uphold truth and justice has again failed miserably.

Amaso: To inspector-general of police Musa Hassan and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, are you heeding the advice from the Agong for "stern action" against those involved in slander, lies and distortion of facts?

Tan Kian Khim: The Agong is completely out of touch with reality and has been grossly misinformed by his trusted 'traditional' media, which have devolved into nothing more than Umno-sanctioned, vitriol-spewing propaganda outlets like Utusan and TV3 .

Perhaps he should actually explore the new media for himself instead of purely relying on what Najib tells him.

Concerned Citizen: Well said, Tuanku. There must be a sense of responsibility and truthfulness by anyone and everyone who does reporting.
