'It's a shame that Dr M is backing Perkasa'

Zaid slams Perkasa for twisting facts

Mead: Every so often you get some self-serving racist bigot who comes along and chips away at the goodwill that's been built up amongst the races over time under the guise of protecting bumiputeras' rights.

Does he (Perkasa's Ibrahim Ali) not understand the demographic makeup of the country to appreciate that Malays, by far, form the majority population group?

Oochum: I have stayed in this country for the past 59 years. I have mixed with Malays Chinese and Indians and my relationship with all the races is extremely cordial. Therefore I do not see any threat that the non-Malays can give to the Malays. Now why is Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa feeling threatened when the Malays form the majority? He is putting fear into the Malays for nothing.

Don't ever think you can dupe the Malays any more as they are far too smart than Mahathir Mohamad or Ibrahim Ali thinks.

Joe Friday: Zaid Ibrahim has been in Umno and he knows everything that is going on with its machinery. Perkasa is just one of its tentacles that is doing its dirty contorted policies to win over the Malay population. However, they fail to understand that 'Bangsa Malaysia' is now well-versed with the wheeling and dealing of the Umnoputras.

Tkc: I have lost count on the number of Malay friends in the corporate world who do not need any special assistance to succeed in any part of the world, let alone Malaysia. Whoever joins Perkasa are losers because they cannot survive in the real world due to their own incompetence and wastefulness.

When I say losers, it also applies to Mahathir because he has lost a few battles even since he stepped down as PM. Instead of going into the history books as one of our better prime ministers, he is now being used by a group of very shallow and bitter people. How sad!

Ngawangjimpa: Congrats Zaid. You've called a spade a spade by revealing Perkasa and its chauvinistic leader Ibrahim as a racist who is now making a name for himself at the expense of ordinary Malays by instilling the illusory fear that Malays are being marginalised and their rights are being challenged by non-Malays.

Freemsia: It is sad and truly a travesty that TDM (Tun Dr Mahathir) have decided to be associated with Perkasa, holding up the keris and all. What a shame. What a shame indeed.

4thGPendatang: Don't blame Mahathir for being involved with Perkasa. They are his only fans now because everybody else despise him.

300 student leaders defy ban to attend meet

P Dev Anand Pillai: The federal government is just worried sick that the university students, who used to be a very docile and compliant lot and whom the government treated like little 'billy goats', are now becoming bolder. This will put them in the right path to be the future leaders that the country needs.

They fear Anwar Ibrahim's daughter Nurrul Izzah because she is her father, multiplied by 10. They fear her because she will be able to rile the students to demonstrate where-ever injustices occur. That is the reason why they keep singing the same old tune of urging the students not to bite the hands that feed them.

These young adults are the next generation and who are going to take over the helm. They are not little billy goats.

Habib RAK: There is no stopping the power of youth. Any government that tries to suppress the youth will only face defeat. Parents will tell you that when the youth demand something, it's best to yield, though in a guided manner. Never bar them. That would be a fatal mistake.

If Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor Dr Ghauth Jasmon takes any action against the students who attended the congress, he will soon find his life will be hell.

Jins Shamsuddin: I salute these brave souls. The young are the hope of Bangsa Malaysia.

UM bans students from 'political' congress

Dianne A Simon: In my view as a lecturer, politics has created disunity among the students. They should not get involved in any political party until they have graduated. They should study and focus their strengths on developing this country, and not get involved in 'rubbish' matters such as politics that is mostly about racial rights, power and money.

Gen2: A university is supposed to be a place to broaden the mind through interactions with new ideas and analyse various differing viewpoints critically. This is what makes universities different from schools, where we are taught to just follow the syllabus and try not to be smarter than the teacher.

This UM directive is just like a school headmaster's directive. Keep the students under a coconut shell and push them out of the university at the end of the graduation year. Never mind the mental and analytical qualities of the grads.

Now you know why private firms prefer to hire locals with foreign degrees compared to local degrees. But then again, the university head has to look after his own rice-bowl.

Ong Guan Sin: UM is very unfortunate and should be ashamed to have a vice-chancellor like Dr Ghauth Jasmon who has chosen to twist and used the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA) as an excuse to prevent its students from attending a youth convention.

How pathetic, and how rotten, a tactic to restrict students' freedom and mind.

The week that Anwar lost

Chuath: Zahrain Mohd Hashim attacked Anwar Ibrahim on his 'unfulfilled promises'? His chief focus was on assaulting Anwar? I do not understand. Are these the issues they debate about in Parliament? Do they have no pressing national issues that truly deserves their time and 'brains'.

Can they think of how to make the streets safe and clean? Schools deserving of their children and ours? Solving issues of basic fundamental rights?

Ghkok: Anwar didn't lose this week in Parliament, neither did he lose any sleep over the ‘irrelevant' Zahrain's nonsensical ravings and childish Khairy Jamaluddin's nonsensical rantings.

Anwar is dignified and won't stoop so low as to even respond to those idiotic statements, which wastes Parliament's time anyway. He rightfully focused his attention on economic matters.

Al: Whoever says Malaysiakini is pro-opposition should also read pieces like this.
