Pasir Mas parliamentarian Ibrahim Ali wants Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to be cited for contempt of court.

NONE Debating the royal address, Ibrahim said Anwar has blatantly dragged his sodomy trial into the streets, “sullying the integrity of the judiciary with his theatrics”.

Among examples, Ibrahim referred to the series of opposition ceramah , a recent DVD featuring a fatwa by renowned Muslim scholar Yusoff Qardawi, and printed materials distributed to the public.

Holding up the documents and copy of the DVD, Ibrahim said: "This is a letter signed by the former PKR secretary-general Salehuddin Hashim. The other (document) is a letter signed by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution. They have also distributed copies of confidential hospital medical reports, stamped ‘Secret’.

"They have manipulated the statement of a Muslim ulama , Yusoff Qardawi. In this arranged interview conducted in Doha, they have misrepresented the facts of the case to him, and misrepresented his general answer as an endorsement of Anwar."

NONE Ibrahim (right) , who also heads the Malay-rights NGO Perkasa, warned that Anwar's antics have come to a point where they could endanger national security and make a mockery of the judicial process.

More so, alleged Ibrahim, Anwar is trying to cause the public to mistrust the judiciary.

"He is acting pre-emptively to implant the perception in the public, that he is being victimised and this trial is a conspiracy."

‘Expose Anwar’

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament lobby later, Ibrahim called on the government to take action against Anwar.

"I want the government to call for a royal commission of inquiry into Anwar's antics. He is trying to create the impression that he is a good leader. We must debunk this view and expose him for what he is."

saiful bukhari azlan 040708 Ibrahim also proposed that the government arranges for the complainant in the sodomy case, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan (right) , to meet Yusoff and give his side of the story.

"The facts of the case like the results of the police investigation were not explained to Yusoff Qardawi. They should arrange for Saiful himself to meet with Yusoff and explain to him. He can even take an oath before Yusoff," added Ibrahim.
