Constable V Navindran's presence at the Taipan police station to interrogate A Kugan was not recorded in its log book, the Sessions Court here was told today.

Constable Mohd Haizan Hamid, 27, said Navindran showed up at 7am on Jan 16 last year but his name was not recorded in the log book purportedly to cover up the interrogation.

Mohd Haizan said he and Corporal K James were on duty from 4am to 8am on the day in question before they were replaced by Corporal M. Paramasibam and Lance Corporal Mohd Sani Mohd Sarip.

a kugan murdered assaulted indian youth When cross examined by defence counsel PM Nagarajan, Mohd Haizan admitted that it was an unusual practice not to record Navindran's presence.

Asked why he concealed the matter in his earlier testimony, Mohd Haizan said, "To prevent the matter from becoming more complicated."

Mohd Haizan was testifying in the trial of Navindran who is charged with causing grievous hurt to Kugan at the interrogation room of the police station in USJ at 7am on Jan 16, last year.

    

Navindran pleaded not guilty to the charge on Oct 1, last year.

Mohd Haizan said on the day Kugan was beaten up, he and other policemen on duty did not record the injuries inflicted on Kugan in the log book or inform their supervisor or superiors.

"I did asked Kugan many times on his condition to ensure that nothing had happened to him and he said he was in good condition.

"And I did not check his physical condition thoroughly as I did not expect this kind of injuries were inflicted on him," said Mohd Haizan.

He, however, denied Nagarajan's suggestion that the failure to record Navindran's presence and inform his (Mohd Haizan) superiors on the injuries was because he was also involved in assaulting Kugan.

Hearing before Judge Aslam Zainuddin will continue on April 22.
