As the Hulu Selangor by-election campaign enters its final hours, the PKR threw the Teoh Beng Hock issue into the fray in an attempt to touch hearts and win votes.

NONE The party's Chinese team was out at work by 10.30am today putting up huge banners with the portrait shot of Teoh smiling down at users of the Batang Kali main road.

The banner (left) is 22 X 12 feet (6.7056 meters), with a massive photo of Teoh in the centre, with words "Justice for Beng Hock" emblazoned on top.

The Chinese words on both sides read, "Justice for Beng Hock, catch the real murderer."

The PKR conducted a simple ceremony where 50 people stood in silent mourning as passing motorists honked horns, paying respect to the memory of late political aide to DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson EanYong Hian Wah.

They then bowed three times before the banner and one of them read out a lament.

Banner provokes vandals

He said he had preserved the banner since then. They had strung it out last night but some unknown persons had brought the banner down around midnight.

They had also torn some holes in it, but they managed to put the banner up again this morning.

PKR supreme council member Low Chee Chong, who was present there, said that the party was trying to refresh the people's memory that the Teoh Beng Hock case has not been resolved, and he has not been given any justice .

On the other hand, the BN with more resources, has been promoting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's ‘1Malaysia' concept.

Recently they put up a brand new signboard, carrying the slogan "We Can" in English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil.

The same slogan was used by US President Obama Barrack during his 2008 presidential campaign and Najib has met with Obama recently in Washington.

The BN's new signboards consist of many small photos of the different races, promoting Najib's '1Malaysia' propaganda.

Yet, the effect of imitating Obama's slogan may backfire, as opposition leaders have criticized Najib of bowing to the American president.
