The Hulu S'gor 'buy-election'

vox populi small thumbnail 'How do you end corruption when the government practices it blatantly in this buy-election?'

Felda settlers slowly warming up to PKR

Wfcoolie: I can only hope that Malaysian politicians remember that the poor normally have no time for political wrangling. They have to ensure their families are fed. Thus prove to them that their support is not in vain.

Allan Kong: How do you end corruption when the government practices it blatantly in this Hulu Selangor buy-election?

SusahKes: So the RM50,000 Najib Razak is splashing about is all part of Umno's strategy: keep what rightfully belongs to the people until election time comes along, then wear your Santa costume and go around dishing goodies, while telling everyone what a generous government Umno/BN is.

This election is clearly a PKR vs Umno battle. On his own, P Kamalanathan is a weak candidate. That's why I don't see headlines of MIC/MCA campaigning. It's all Umno, with the king of kataks (and ‘independents' like Ezam Mohd Nor) thrown in for good measure.

Ong: Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat should make the Felda settlers realise that the RM50,000 announced by Najib is not a gift from the BN government. It is part of the RM1.2 million owed to them since 1994. It is like the story of the woman who was finally able to get her identity card due to "timely intervention" by Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

All these people are only getting what they are entitled to in the first place. They don't have to feel grateful. Instead they have a right to continue feeling aggrieved for being made to wait half their lifetimes for their entitlements.

The Felda settlers should also be entitled to additional compensation for late payment. The woman who got her identity card, after waiting so many years, should be paid compensation for mental suffering and loss of opportunities.

Ng Seng Tong: Pakatan, be alert to Umno's dirty ways. Umno is working hand-in-glove with the Election Commission and Rela. Be pro-active in battling them. Have you wondered why Malaysians for a Free and Fair Elections (Mafrel) is disenfranchised?

Is the relocation of voters and the influx of Rela members (into Hulu Selangor) on the pretext only of ensuring security? Could it be that Rela people are there to vote? Please do not think that this is just a figment of my imagination. Anything can happen in Bolehland.

Gilapolitik: This is not just a fight between BN and Pakatan. It is also a fight of political survival and relevance for MCA, MIC and Gerakan. If P Kamalanathan wins, I think these parties would be losing the control over the own parties' choice of candidates for future elections. Then I don't know how the presidents of these parties can retain their political support within their own parties.

Wira: The BN government really hopeless. They owe the settlers money for 15 years and it has to take a ‘buy' election to make them cough out the money. For that, they have to get the PM to hand out the cash in a grand ceremony meant for the media.

PAS spiritual guru ratches up support a notch

Phra Ong Chao: It's certainly a virtue to 'mengenang budi' (be grateful) but one must also see whether the act of 'bayar budi' (repayment of kindness) is commensurate with the situation.

Sometimes, we take this concept of 'hutang budi dibawa mati' (a debt of gratitude lasts forever) to the extreme to the detriment of our own society. Blindly conforming to this concept leads to condoning whatever the 'pemberi budi' (person who meted out kindness) does regardless of whether it is right.

Moreover, a government helping the people can hardly be seen to be done on the basis of kindness, but rather, it is done out of duty that the government owes to the people. So, in fact, the question of the Felda settlers being ‘terhutang budi' till the day they die to the late Tun Razak should not arise since Tun Razak was performing his duty as the prime minister.

What BN is doing by putting out those posters with the pantun is called 'mengungkit-ungkit' (bringing up the past with intention of being thanked).

Heavy fallout continues over TV producer quitting

Thinking Aloud: The truth is out. Rosmah Mansor was involved, even if the PM Najib Abdul Razak tries to cover it up, which is what he has been doing every time when the finger points to her. Najib you can play the game, but it will not go on forever. Your own Umno will be the cause of this because they are as greedy as you are for power.

Sugumaran Rajaram: PM's wife tak tahu malu . If it is true that there was intervention by Rosmah, this nation is gone. Really shameful.

BTN: This country, whether you like it or not, is going downhill. The choice of the people in voting for BN will lead this country to play second fiddle to Indonesia in the near future.

Lahore San: Umno still doesn't get it. The days of news and information channels being monopolised by them are over. It was over a decade ago when they sacked Anwar Ibrahim.

Kgen: this is the true face of Najib - promise media freedom in public but bash the media in private. As for Najib's 1Malaysia, draw your own conclusions.

Orang Asli villages 'barricaded', police report lodged

Cala: If you are a good student you do not cheat in an examination. There is no need to because you are well prepared for it. By barricading the entrances to two orang asli villages in HS is a form of cheating because somebody is not confident of securing the support of the villages. Indeed, such action is despicable.

Black Mamba: Umno is a corrupt party. Within their own party elections they are already jostling and blatantly buying votes to be Vice Presidents and it has infiltrated into national politics. It need to be cleansed and eat humble pie before they are able to win back the rakyat confidence.
