Rumours that Kedah exco S Manikumar would be defecting out of PKR which could possibly lead to snap polls to be held in Kedah, are false.

However,the Bukit Selambau assemblyperson ( left ) said today: "I don't know why there are rumours about me defecting."

He further stated that he was misquoted by Sinar Harian , a Malay news daily last week, where he reportedly stated that there was a need for an analytical study to understand why Pakatan reps are defecting.

He also denied that there would be snap elections soon.

Kedah state Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak had previously mentioned that the state assembly might be dissolved in the event of recurring defections.

Manikumar won the Bukit Selambau by-election in April last year and was subsequently appointed state executive councillor in charge of domestic trade and consumer affairs.

Bakar Arang's Tan Wei Shu was the most recent assemblyperson to quit PKR in Kedah, leaving in April.

Lunas assembly person, Mohammad Radzhi Salleh of PKR was the first to quit the party, in August last year.

The defections has resulted in the PAS led Pakatan government to have a four seat majority out of 36 state seats.

Pakatan commands 20 state seats compared to Barisan's 14 with two independents.
