More S'gor local councils ban sports betting

Ghkok: Syabas to Pakatan Rakyat. This is the right thing to do - socially and politically. People of all races and religions are opposing legalised sports betting. There is real support from all people. Gambling must be curbed and controlled.

There is already too much of it going on. Stories of families destroyed, suicides, bankruptcies, divorce. It is our duty to speak up against it, whatever our race or religion.

Louis A: This is a bold move indeed. We are waiting for local councils in Penang and Kedah to follow suit. Sport betting, and especially football betting, is detrimental to the society. Football is widely followed by youngsters. To add to thrill, they might place bets on their favourite team. In so doing, we are actually grooming a new generation of gamblers.

Not only that, there would be some who steal or rob to sustain their gambling habit. Banning football betting is a step in the right direction. Well done, Selangor local councils.

Beetle: This ban should be extended to all Pakatan-ruled government. What say you, Lim Guan Eng? Remember, you cannot please everyone. Maybe your decision will anger some gamblers but think of all those housewives and families that are affected by gambling spouses - they will support you.

Kenzo : Why only Pakatan states need to ban this? I believe that Terengganu Umno and Pahang Umno claim to be more Islamic than PAS. The majority in these states are overwhelmingly Malay. Why do these states allow betting, and why do they keep quiet about the additional sports betting that the federal government is allowing now?

Barking Dog: Kudos on this unique move in the right direction. Which BN-held state is brave enough to emulate? None, I fear.

Another MIC CWC man ticks off Samy

Sulaiman Hikmat: S Samy Vellu needs some time to plan his comeback. He has learned from Dr Mahathir Mohamad, that once you get out, there is no coming back. Mahathir is trying hard and has failed.

So, Samy Vellu is planning the ways and the means to do so. He's got Vell Paari, like how Mukhriz is to Mahathir. However, Vell Paari will have no relatives like Hishammuddin Hussein and Najib Razak to assist him.

Samy Vellu was known to never conduct or lead any meetings in a civilised manner, and this became a trend in MIC.

Jbss: Politics in BN is so lucrative that dynasties are being formed to carry on the business of the families in politics. We have the Mahathir dynasty, Razak dynasty, Hussein dynasty, Dollah dynasty, Ling dynasty, Lim dynasty, Chua dynasty and now Samy dynasty.

The true Malaysian leaders and our forefathers the likes of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tan Siew Sin, Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, V Sambanthan, S Manikavasagam never thought about politics as a business. Their interest was only in serving the rakyat and the nation.

Rubystar: GAS is already a lost clause... Samy Vellu (SV) still has some buddies in Umno because he made a lot of money for them and has a thick dossier on what he has done. And SV's son is committing suicide by accusing Umno of instigating the plot.

The plot thickens as Bollywood is now screening the main protagonists, SV and his son, while the GAS members have some small roles to play, and they are now the villians waiting to be slaughtered. Bollywood has indeed come alive in MIC.
