Former Attorney-General Mohtar Abdullah, who is now a Federal Court judge, has yet to regain consciousness after undergoing surgeries at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre in Selangor two months ago.

"His condition is stable but has yet to regain consciousness," a court official told malaysiakini today.

The official added that he last visited the former AG two weeks ago.

Mohtar, 57, is believed to have been suffering from a blood clot in his brain. He was rushed to the medical centre after collapsing in his home on Aug 5.

He served as AG from Jan 1994 to Dec 2000 and on Jan 23 last year, amidst controversy, was appointed as a Federal Court judge.

He is said to be the youngest person ever to be appointed as a judge at the highest court in the land.

During his tenure as AG, Mohtar headed the prosecution team in the corruption and sodomy trials of jailed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim. The trials have been slammed by international legal bodies as a miscarriage of justice.

He was accused of being part of a political conspiracy to oust the former deputy premier, a charge which has been denied.
