RM7.3 bil subs deal: Gov't in austerity mode?
'A total of RM7.3 billion will be spent, and yet they have the audacity to tell the rakyat that they don't have enough money such as scholarships for the smart students. Undeniably, this is gross mismanagement of the highest order.'
Scorpene deal cost up to RM7.3 bil
Geronimo: Until today I still cannot understand the rationale behind the purchase of the two ‘empty buckets'. We are not at war and neither are we preparing for war, like an invasion of a foreign country. So why the need of the submarines?
A total of RM7.3 billion will be spent, and yet they have the audacity to tell the rakyat that they don't have enough money such as scholarships for the smart students. Undeniably, this is gross mismanagement of the highest order.
MACC should find out (which I know they will not) whether there is a feasibility paper to this effect to justify the purchase of the submarines. You are right, Idris Jala, we are heading for bankruptcy, but it will not be in 2019. It will be much earlier.
Joe: You can tell the true priority and character of our national leadership by the way the government allocates its expenditure and treat the least of its citizens - the disenfranchised, farmers, natives in the interior, the poor, sick and needy.
Najib Razak's administration spent a whopping RM7.3 billion for two submarines. This is when the Orang Asli villages in parts of Pahang are without pipe water. When schools in the interior of Sabah are without electricity. When hospitals in Kuala Lumpur are overcrowded. When scholarship places are cut back, and subsidies for basic necessities are being withdrawn.
People is not the real concern of this government. It's business as usual for BN-Umno regime. ‘The People First, Performance Now' slogan is bogus.
Mangodurian: According to this , the Exocet SM-39 lists Malaysia as one of the operators. Since the ‘SM' designate is for submarine missiles, then I guess we really bought these for the Scorpenes. India in 2003 bought 36 of these for 150 million euros. Given the benefit of inflation, we're paying 220 million euros now, or 6 million euros each.
Anonymous: Since the missiles only arrive in 2012, it means that we can test these missiles in that year for a trial period. This also means our submarines are sitting ducks when there is a need for them to do combat. Why buy submarines when they comes in pieces? How much is the maintenance cost of the missiles? Another cost which is not accounted for? The total cost of these subs will bleed Bolehland to death.
Tan Kian Khim: When did Abdul Razak Baginda become such an expert on military submarine operations that the taxpayers of Malaysia had to pay him 115 million euros (RM574.8 million) for 'training' and 'coordination' services - and without a public tender?
Habib RAK: Oh, this is what Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin means by already in austerity mode . God help us!
Altantuya's kin gets aid from Mongolia gov't
Abil: We Malaysians should create a fund for the suit since it is the duty of all Malaysians to seek truth and justice for anyone who is a victim of murder, be it Altuntaya Shaariibuu, A Kugan or Teoh Beng Hock.
Anonymous: Many Malaysians would love to contribute to a fund for Setev Shaariibuu to seek the truth and justice for Altantuya. If there is such a fund set up, then you can count me in. Justice must be prevail. We're all human beings, we can't see an innocent life taken away without justice being served.
New Malay: I believe that if each of us donates RM5 or RM10, we could easily gather RM100,000 within a month as a support for justice. It shows that we still have our humanity and sympathy towards Altantuya's death. It will also show to the people of Mongolia that we are different from the bunch of animals in Malaysia who killed and blasted her to bits.
MorningSun: The Malaysian kangaroo courts under BN/UMmno government cannot be relied on. It would be a waste of time, money and energy. If we really hope for justice, we have no other choice but to bring the case to an international court, or wait until Pakatan Rakyat takes over the federal government.
Tancc: We need more people like Karpal Singh to stand up and show the world the good side of Malaysians - that they are peace-loving, compassionate and justice-seeking.
Minister: Ex-PM's aide not involved in Altantuya murder
Dev: The government is so freaking good at twisting words, beating around the bush and manipulating sentences, that in the end, they never actually get to the point. The betting licence debacle is the best example yet.
Lim Chong Leong: Why don't we believe anything the government says about the Altantuya's case?
Khir Toyo: Seri Serdang rep not quitting
Christ follower: Anwar Ibrahim and Khalid Ibrahim beware, don't ever trust and take this guy Mohd Satim Diman into Pakatan Rakyat. He may be a traitor or planted by BN to topple the Selangor government. Remember what happened in Perak. Unless Pakatan wants to dig its own grave, then go and accept this traitor.
Matrix: This is either a Trojan horse or a case of not getting enough money. If ‘kataks' can make millions, then maybe they can get some of it if they threaten to leave. Hopefully, it'll start a new trend in Umno. Whatever it is, don't accept this guy into Pakatan. There are too many examples of double-headed snakes from Umno.
DOC: I feel that this sudden increase in Umno assemblymen (in Perak and now in Selangor) becoming unhappy with their party and threatening to quit is part of Umno's own folly. When their own assemblypersons see money thrown by Umno at opposition politicians to buy them over, these fellows may feel that Umno is not taking good care of their kind.
This is the reason these Umno reps put on this ‘merajuk' (sulking) look and threaten to leave the party in the hope that Umno forks out some cash or favours to keep them happy. I foresee many more Umno politicians will join the bandwagon of disgruntle politicians, but rest assured that no one will ‘frog' over to the opposition or become independents, or for that matter, quit politics.
Sarajun Hoda: Let's hope this remains a rumour. It would be bad if he jumps ships. Whether BN to Pakatan or Pakatan to BN, frogging should not be allowed at all, as it betrays the public trust. In this case, he should remain in BN, at least till next election.
Free: This is a wise decision to avoid disqualification and towards enabling Tian Chua to stand for the 13th general elections, but this court decision might also be a dirty trick by Umno. To be safe, it is better to appeal for clarification regarding the conviction.
Swipenter: Either way, PKR is going to retain the Batu parliamentary seat because I don't see BN winning in the by-election if the Court of Appeal rules that Tian Chua is disqualified by virtue of the RM2,000.
It would be very interesting to see how the Court of Appeal treats the High Court judge's stated intention of not wanting to have another by-election too.
