'The poor will always be special for Taib Mahmud'
'The alternative media and netizens should continue to fill the civil space so that the people of Sarawak can know what is actually happening.'
Police accused of defending Taib family's interests
Swipenter: This provides a good example of how the political elites are hand-in-glove with the neo-capitalists in robbing the poor. After robbing the poor, they make sure the poor say ‘thank you' to them by throwing little crumbs at their feet during election time or maybe by allocating some small pieces of land for them to build their little huts (extremely lucky if it comes with piped running water and electricity supply), and grow some cash crops and raise a few chickens.
Joe: Those guilty and their henchmen are all going to drown in their own flood of excesses and dissipation and be swept away in the coming state and general election. The alternative media and netizens should continue to fill the civil space to counter the MSM's (mainstream media) propaganda so that the people of Sarawak can know what is actually happening.
Loyal Malaysian: This is why the alternative media must make known the complicity of the police in guarding Abdul Taib Mahmud's business interests. The MSM will not dare touch such reports with a 10-metre pole.
Doc: Police looking after the private interests of politicians is not something new in Malaysia. When I say politicians, I mean BN politicians. With opposition politicians, that's a different story. Police are swift to act on orders of their BN/Umno bosses in apprehending opposition politicians using brute force.
Like when a group of balaclava-clad special forces officers were sent to apprehend Anwar Ibrahim, and how Tian Chua got carted off by a whole bunch of police officers leading to the biting incident, how the police stormed into the Perak state assembly and carried out V Sivakumar, and the brute force exhibited by police in ending opposition-sponsored protests.
The sharp contrast is seen when police act as hired guns to protect the political masters, such as in Taib's case. During the cow-head and ‘Allah' protests, the police just stood by. And don't forget, the infamous Altantuya Shaariibuu killing, when police officers acted to protect the interests of their bosses.
Sarawakian: In spite of his excessive greed which has already made his whole family rich beyond anybody's dreams, he is still not satisfied. He is now going after the assets of even the poorest folks. This man has no shame and is totally bankrupt of any decency.
Urban Sarawakian: Good article, Keruah Usit! Keep writing about Sarawak since the state election is so near. Hope other Sarawakian bloggers will pick this up and Sarawakians working within and outside of the state will advise their elders and relatives back home in the kampungs to vote against BN.
Saudara (Sarawak PKR chief) Baru Bian, we count on you to lead the Sarawak challenge together with your other Pakatan members, especially DAP. But the DAP is ineffective in non-urban seats. We urban non-native Sarawakians are already voting against BN and though we very much want to see Sarawak BN booted out, we, like the DAP are unable to help you win the Dayak, Melanau and Malay votes.
The next best thing we can do is to contribute financially, so if you will initiate an online appeal fund, I'm sure many thousands will contribute, be it RM10 or more. Remember how Barack Obama sourced his campaign?
Tell the Truth: Since the Home Ministry looks after the police, will it act on the complaint or are we going to get the usual ‘buat tak tahu'? Is this the way Muslims behave? Conspire with Chinese tycoons to rape the land and those who have been forced to live a life of utter poverty?
Do you think God will be merciful to you when you have been so wicked as not to even investigate the complaints of corruption? Mr Home Minister, it's time you behave like one and not use the police force to bully the rakyat.
Chong Lai Ping: All the BN politicians keep quiet because deep down inside, they know everybody's doing the same thing, even the top one. If they don't keep quiet, it would be like trying to teach the crab to walk straight.
Subs deal: Probe zeroes in on 'missing link'
Anonymous: The French government's probe into the Scorpene submarines corruption kickbacks and Mongolian government's legal aid to Altantuya's father Setev Shaariibuu bring Malaysia to international attention again for the wrong reasons. Altantuya shall and will be the leading factor for PM Najib Abdul Razak's downfall.
Man: Malaysians, isn't this act of profiting millions at the expense of the government and its rulers and the rakyat not glaringly tantamount to treason of the highest order? Then, why are the powers-that-be, including the super-efficient Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) remaining mum? Or are we saying that it is a smart move to take a huge cut by being an intermediary for the nation's shopping list?
Terus: Can the cabinet members, senior civil servants including the Commercial Crimes Department and MACC directors look at one another straight in the eyes and then say there is nothing "fishy" in this deal.
Most Malaysians including a huge majority that do not have tertiary education would not be able to look at one another without blushing and knowing that this transaction with a company that have no expertise and belonging to a crony is a crooked deal.
'Contractors' squabbles not our responsibility'
Long Jaafar: There is something that needs clarification here. In any contract, there will be sub-contractors. For example, the main contractor may subcontract certain works, like concreting, landscaping, etc, to smaller or specialist contractors. Or the client may nominate some specialist contractors, and they would have to pay 'attendance fees' to the main contractor who is still responsible for the whole project.
In many cases of the ‘Ali Baba' type, the so-called 'subcontractors' are actually contractors that have been given the whole project by the main contractor, via a lump-sum payment (for merely getting the job). On paper, the original contractor is still responsible, but for all intents and purposes, the main contractor has abdicated and is no more in charge, having taken some money up-front.
So, when the minister mentions ‘sub-contractor', he means the normal above-board arrangement, but I think he, and the whole world, knows that is not the case here.
Habib RAK: Works Minister Shaziman Mansor, please stop these silly denials. The more you spin, the more the rakyat get angry. The evidence offered is concrete and irrefutable. Admit it and move on by finding solutions. Or else, you will compound the problem further.
Jacob George: It's a contractors' squabble, my foot! This is plain unadulterated misrepresentation, corruption and a classic example of Malaysia's infamous rent-seeking and patronage exercise.
Nothing less and nothing more, but a shame all the same.
