The key witness in the shooting case of Aminulrasyid Amzah has claimed that he was pressured by the police during an identification parade on July 6.

Azamuddin Omar was called in to the Shah Alam Contingent headquarters for an identification parade, following a police report that his brother Mohd Hafizzuddin Omar lodged on May 20, accusing the police of attempting to murder Azamuddin during the night of the shooting incident.

In a press conference at Shah Alam parliamentarian Khalid Samad’s service centre yesterday, Hafizzuddin claimed that his brother was forced to go through the identification parade without the presence of his lawyer.

“A lawyer should be present at all times where police are involved, in order to ensure the police investigation is carried out fairly,” he said.

Hafizzuddin ( left in picture, with Azamuddin ) also claimed that the police scolded Azamuddin during the procedure, accusing him of delaying the police’s work.

He added that his brother was treated like a criminal instead of a key witness to the shooting case.

“All these are affecting Azamuddin’s focus on his studies,” he said.

The 15-year-old is due to sit for his Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) in two months’ time.

“I believe the police are acting in such a manner to avoid the case going to trial,” he added.

‘Too dark to identify’

Meanwhile, Monaliza Mokhtar, a parent-teacher association representative from Azamuddin's school who was present during the identification parade, claimed that she heard the police shouting at the key witness during the identification process.

She added that Azamuddin was only treated well upon her arrival at the police station.

On May 26, Azamuddin was quizzed for the fourth time at the Bukit Aman headquarters over the April 25 incident.

Aminulrasyid ( right ) had gone out with Azamuddin on the evening of April 25 to a nearby food stall to watch football. Aminulrasyid was killed, however, after coming under a hail of gunfire from police officers after the two youths were said to have ignored orders to stop following a high-speed chase.
