'Keep your fancy KPIs, FOI will do'

your say 'Would a store keeper deny the inventory report to the store owner? Yet that's what BN MPs have been doing to the people who hired them as their reps.'

S'gor tables ground-breaking FOI Bill

Sarawakian: This is a bill that's way overdue. We hope that it will put pressure on other states to emulate. People have the right to know how the government operates. Hiding things could only mean one thing - our leaders are trying to cheat us.

Look at Sarawak. If such a bill were implemented long ago, Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud would not have been able to allegedly channel billions of funds and properties to himself and his family. Likewise, Najib Razak, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and their cronies.

Agent99: Transparency is the first step towards achieving good governance and I am glad Selangor has led the way and shown BN what democracy is all about. The public has every right to know how the government offices are being managed. I suppose Selangor doesn't need those fancy KPIs to bring themselves up to notch in transforming Malaysia into a true democratic country.

Another state that BN should emulate is Penang, on their achievement to increase foreign investment. And Kelantan had successfully demonstrated that Islam does not hinder progress, Kedah yet to be seen, and unfortunately Perak Pakatan Rakyat does not have the chance to prove themselves, thanks to the ‘frogs'.

Saengch: Would a store keeper deny the inventory report to the store owner? Yet that's what BN MPs have been doing to the people who hired them as their representatives. Fire them, I say.

Anonymous: Way to go Selangor. Congratulations for making good on your election promise and dignifying your state citizens. Truth needs no defence. Lies will be uncovered. Onwards to Putrajaya!

Luke Skywalker: Thank you Pakatan Rakyat. This is exactly what Malaysians want and this is exactly how a better country is built. Not the way it is done by BN - Perkasa Melayu for Malays, Perkasa Cina for Chinese, Perkasa India for Indians.

Eugene : I beg to differ with BN state rep Sulaiman Abdul Razak about the government's rights to keep secrets. If there's no wrongdoing, what secrets does it needs to keep? We the rakyat have a bigger right to know what is being done with our investment (taxes) than their so-called secrecy rights.

As we are the ones who appoint the government, we the shareholders want to know what the board is doing - no more hiding secrets or stealing behind our backs.

Pemerhati: Sulaiman's statement indicates that BN clearly does not like this law. The BN has been enacting all sorts of laws to prevent the public from knowing how they have been stealing billions of ringgit of the taxpayers' money through kickbacks from overpriced government purchases and mega-projects and other shady deals. Hence, any law that mandates transparency will be strongly opposed, as shown by Sulaiman.

The BN leaders and their cronies, who have stolen billions of ringgit of the people's money, are terrified that they may be brought to justice if they lose the next elections.

Their fear and desperation is beginning to show as they are now taking steps to close the publications of the opposition parties and are simultaneously playing the race card through Perkasa.

S'gor BN rep: FOI Bill unconstitutional

Lee Heng Soon: These people always say that they are responsible fellows. You judge yourselves whether they are responsible after 52 years. Why use all the government machineries and tools to threaten any bill that benefits the people?

If Umno is responsible, why keep everything under the Official Secrets Act? Why lopsided toll concessions? Why uneconomical independent power supply? Why is telling the truth is a crime? They call themselves responsible?

Don't talk s**t! Don't talk s**t! I repeat again, don't talk s**t! as our Ibrahim Ali would say .

Satinah Osman: The looters and robbers of public funds through various guises and ruses must be shivering in their pants. So they will try their best not to let the public who elected them to office not know what havoc they are doing to the nation whilst enriching themselves, relatives and cronies through their devious actions and schemes in the name of the NEP and similar rubbish.

This is all that is needed for Pakatan to throw BN out from power and, if need be, amend the federal constitution and withdraw 'certain' amendments so that we go back to the good old days when there was harmony amongst all Malaysians of every race, religion and creed. That day must come soon.

Lover Boy: Sulaiman Abdul Razak, this sunshine bill has to be passed and will affect all matters concerning the state. The state government is confident that they have nothing to suppress and that the taxpaying public has a right to information on acts of the state government. The federal government can resist but they have no right in this case to interfere in matters of the state.

Watchman: I just cannot believe the rubbish from the mouth of Sulaiman Abdul Razak. It is for the state government to determine what is secret and what is not. It has nothing to do with Parliament. Anyway, it appears that Umno fears that a lot of corruption under the previous state government will be exposed.

GuanSin/Pratamad: Can anyone imagine the opposition shouting to the government of the day: "Please, we don't want any information about your government." It is so obvious BN is indeed afraid of its own shadow.

I am thinking when they will say the FOI enactment is challenging Malay rights or even threatening the royal institution.
