Khalid: Call to scrap bumi discount only on costly property
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said the proposal to scrap discounts for bumiputera is for the purchase of a property worth RM500,000 and above.
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said the proposal to scrap discounts for bumiputera is for the purchase of a property worth RM500,000 and above.
He said the proposal, made by Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, did not suggest the abolishment of bumiputera discounts on the purchase of a low-cost house or a affordable home priced around RM250,000 per unit.
On a question whether Pua's proposal would be taken into consideration in the state's 2011 budget, Khalid said: "If the proposal gets the nod, it will be written in the budget speech, if not, you will not hear anything about it."
He said this after closing the Selangor 2011 Budget Dialogue in Shah Alam today.
Earlier, Khalid also launched the fund-raising programme for the humanitarian mission dubbed ‘Ramadan In Gaza' organised by the state government with cooperation from Malaysian non-governmental organisations.
He said the programme was expected to raise RM3 million, starting with a donation of RM500,000 from the state government.
A total of 40 activists, led by Selangor Information director Badrol Amin Bahron, will take part in the humanitarian mission to send food, medical and educational aid to the Palestinians in Gaza.
The team is set to depart for Gaza on Aug 6 and return to Kuala Lumpur on Aug 18.
