Electronic commerce (e-commerce) revenue in Malaysia is expected to increase to RM92.8 billion (US$29.24 billion) this year from RM70.3 billion (US$22.15 billion) last year.

The National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) chairman, Wei Chuan Beng, said airlines, travel and financial sectors would be among the key growth drivers.

He said the e-commerce outlook in Malaysia was bright as the activities in the country still lagged behind other countries.

"Trade through e-commerce has grown faster than other trades in Malaysia," he told a media briefing after the launch of Business Success Forum by Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister, Fadillah Yusof.

Wei said e-commerce adoption among the small and medium enterprises was expected to increase going forward as it would be a crucial strategy to open up their businesses to the world.

He said the information, technology and communication (ICT) industry as expected to grow by 15 per cent this year in line with improved economic conditions.

"Demand for ICT products are increasing," he said.

The two-day forum is one of the initiatives organised under the National ICT Month 2010.
