True to his words, Bukit Bendera Umno Youth  information chief Rose Akmar Ahmed has lodged  a report at the Butterworth police station, alleging that the state leadership has failed in its duties to inform members about the division’s annual general meeting.

Rose Akmar, who is also the Kampung Mutiara protem committee chairperson, was among four division representatives who lodged police reports on July 9 alleging they had not received notice of the division AGM.

Rose Akmar and the other representatives hold the state leadership responsible for the problem and alleged he had only received a notice on Friday, August 6, a day before the AGM, which he flatly refused to accept.

“Someone from the state leadership met me in Sunway City (Seberang Jaya) and gave me the letter, but I refused to accept,” he said.

The Bukit Bendera Umno division has been plagued by controversy ever since its chief Ahmad Ismail ( left ) was suspended in 2008 for making derogatory remarks against the Chinese community. He was reinstated last year.

Last week, Ahmad made the shocking decision to withdraw from the divisional election although in March, 36 committee members resigned en bloc to pave way for the former to re-contest.

When told that Ahmad had been conferred two heroic titles by the Bukit Bendera delegates, Rose Akmar dismissed the affair as a gimmick engineered by Ahmad himself.

“He did this to hide whatever suspicion there is about him and what is going on in Bukit Bendera,” claimed Rose Akmar.

bukit bendera agm 080810 zainol shaikh ariffin “Just after he was suspended, he had met with the 36 committee members (to get them) to resign and then appoint him to be their chief again,” he alleged.

“He really showed how interested he was in coming back. But after our police report on July 9, it seems the AGM was postponed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zainol ( left ) said that he, too, had not received any notice of the AGM from the state leadership.

“What is even worse is that we were not informed at all about branch meetings and, therefore, we were shocked when we heard about the AGM, its postponements and now the official opening,” he added.

Earlier, Rose Akhmar said he will not be accompanied by too many supporters to the police station as “we are not organising a demonstration”.

He maintained that many members had not received the official notice calling for the AGM, which had been earlier postponed twice – July 11 and July 31 – without any explanation.

Such a notice should rightly have been delivered at least 14 days prior to the event, Rose Akmar pointed out.

“We are doing this step by step. We want to see if they actually go ahead with the meeting and if they do, we are off to the police station in Butterworth,” he added.
