Why can't MACC do anything about Taib?

your say 'MACC is unable to act on Taib Mahmud and his family members as its officers are currently busy ‘strangling’ themselves.’

Cut-price sale of Kuching land to Taib's children

Cala: PM Najib Razak must act. If Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen's allegation is true, that Taib alienated 269 acres of prime land to his children at pittance (at RM291,000 an acre versus RM1.5 to RM2 million at market price), surely it is up to Najib to reprimand him as head of the BN coalition.

Otherwise, this will be a far cry from his usual exhortation of building an inclusive society for all (10th Malaysia Plan, 2011- 2015, p. 178). Also if he will not, then what is the difference between him and Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Sarawakian: Nothing new really. This has been going on for years and it's only the tip of the iceberg. Taib must be on another buying spree for expensive properties overseas. Paris, maybe?

Giving valuable state land to crony companies and his own family is happening all the time. For example, land such as the Batu Lintang area where a huge number of living quarters for government servants were located had been bulldozed to the ground and is now crony-owned.

That piece of land must be worth close to RM100 million, if not more. Nobody can tell if any money were paid for it.

OneFair: I wonder why Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud said he may not stand for next state election 'if he is not wanted'.

Surely he is afraid that he will be under attacked by many opponents both within and outside his party - within the party for dragging the party's name down, and from others (outside the party) for the many cases of suspicious deals and his family’s monetary gain.

Outahere: It just can’t get better with Sarawak state elections just around the corner. Perhaps Taib has already admitted defeat, and in desperation he is squandering as much as he can while BN's days are numbered in Sarawak.

DOC: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is unable to act on Taib and his family members who are plundering Sarawak as its officers are currently busy ‘strangling’ themselves.

Sentinel: Hey, MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamad, ‘apa macam’? I thought you said you were willing to resign if any investigation is not carried out on a VVIP case? Bohong lagi kepada rakyat. Sampai bila mahu berbohong?

Sarajun Hoda: Good work, Chong Chieng Jen. But how to get pass attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail?

Jimmy Ng: This ‘Pek Moh’ (white hair) has gone too far. He is already a billionaire 10 times over and he is still not contented with robbing the public/taxpayers? And the fellow who collaborated with him - he should be turned into a eunuch.

Dr Krishna: What is Perkasa going to say now? That under Perlembagaan Persekutuan’s Article 153, Taib is Malay and bumiputera, so they have a right to this - robbing other Malay/ bumiputeras’ wealth? If Perkasa was really fighting for Malay/bumiputera cause, please respond to this.

Multi Racial: If the claim is true and no action taken by the present government, Malaysians have to come together to vote those corrupt politicians and those who supported corrupt politicians out.

With the new government, the immediate step would be to put in place a system that will prevent such corrupt practises from happening. Next would be to initiate legal proceedings to get back all the state’s wealth from these politicians. If found guilty, they should be severely punished.

Swipenter: Greed knows no bounds. When you meet your maker you can’t take one single cent with you and neither can you bribe the lord of death to live an extra hour longer with all your wealth when your time is up.

Umno sec-gen: We'll win, with or without Taib

Magnus: “It is statesman-like to think of the state rather than just of himself. As far as we (Umno) are concerned, there are other leaders who will be able to take over if he chooses to step down,” said Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Statesman-like? You mean like a skilled, experienced and respected political leader or figure? I wonder if those people in Oxford who wanted to greet and meet this ‘statesman-like’ figure recently will agree with that description or see it that way, so perhaps this ‘statesman-like’ figure should meet and greet those good people who went there and waited for him in Oxford when he next goes there, hopefully through the front door instead of the backdoor this time.

Isaac Ho: Let the people of Sarawak decide the fate of Taib Mahmud. Regardless of whether Taib would or wouldn't participate in the coming election for Sarawak, the fact of the matter is that he must return all the ill-gotten gains which he has robbed the Sarawakians.

And Sarawakians should boot Taib out, otherwise he would continue to plunder the wealth and cut down the remaining forests in the state.

Peoples Voice: Tengku Adnan has spoken wisely. Dear Taib, this is an indication that Umno and BN do not need you to win. In fact, I would think that BN will do better if you resign. The more you delay, the worse it will be for BN, you and your family.

People today are wiser. See how you threw your own money in Sibu and they slapped you right on the face.

Sarawakian: Frankly, it's too late now. The damage had been done. Taib was the main culprit but the rest of the BN ministers are no angels either. In fact, most of them are crooks as can be seen by their opulent lifestyle as they continue to plunder the state.

Replace Taib with who? His two deputies are as corrupt and so are the rest of the senior and junior ministers. There is no way out for Sarawakians except to kick all of them out and elect a fresh government. Taib can dish all his money out but not many people are going to be impressed. Personally, I just can't wait to cast my vote to cast BN out.

Victor Johan: Taib Mahmud had said he was ready to quit if the situation required him to do so. So why this announcement that with or without Taib, you'll win? What about with or without Najib Razak you'll win too?

Sarawak has been 'independent since 1963, i.e. 47 years, and Taib has been chief minister for 29 years, i.e. close to 62 percent of the duration of independence. What has the state got to show in terms of progress? What development will the Sarawakians get in the next five years?

Urban Sarawakian: Finally Taib has spoken - he will step down before the next state election. Bravo! But wait, how come this piece of news is not published in the local English language daily Borneo Post? I bet this piece of news is not published at all Sarawak dailies.

It looks like Taib is only 'merajuk' (sulking). I bet you my bottom dollar all the leaders of Sarawak BN's component parties will plead to ask him to stay on. ‘Wayang kulit’ (shadow play) only!

Dood: Tengku Adnan: "When you've been in power too long, people get tired of you." He's talking about Taib, but it's funny how that applies so well to Umno/BN too.
