It seems that the handing over of protest notes to the Singapore High Commission against the death sentence passed on Malaysian Yong Vui Kong has developed into a ritual.

Lawyers for Liberty and two MPs handed over the latest protest note today.

Teluk Intan MP M Manogaran and Kapar MP S Manickavasagam had sent letters to meet with the Singaporean High Commissioner T Jasudasen, which had been met with silence.

NONE However, First Secretary Walter Chia repeated the action of accepting the memorandum from the group of more than 10 on Jasudasen's behalf, as he had done two weeks ago.

One among them, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, appealed to the Singapore government for a response this time around.

"We are urging the Singapore government to respond because there has been no feedback since the first memorandum was handed over," she said

Both lawyer N Surendran and Manogaran expressed their disappointment with Foreign Minister Anifah Aman's lack of action.

Before dispersing, the group held up a banner that read, Singapore! Stop The Killing .

At the same time, Manickavasagam shouted: "We are warning the Singaporean government! If they hang Yong Vui Kong, we will bring a coffin here!"

NONE In another development, representatives from various organisations declared that Sept 5 of every year will now be marked as "Say Sorry Day".

They made the announcement at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH).

The group said that inspiration for ‘Say Sorry Day' came from the Save Vui Kong campaign, but stressed that the two were independent of each other.

Among those present at the press conference were KLSCAH's Civil Rights Committee representative Ngeow Chow Ying, who is also Yong Vui Kong's family's lawyer, Marina Mahathir and the Chief Buddhist High Priest of Malaysia, Reverend K Sri Dhammaratana.
