Najib plans 'heart to heart' talk with Taib

Maitreya: Almost pathetic, these soon-to-be-extinct robber barons whose every utterance inspires only disgust and revulsion. Wouldn't it be interesting to be a fly on the wall when these two greedy, grasping politicians get together behind closed doors and plot their own political survival amidst turbulent changes and damning revelations of their long history of misdeeds?

Freemsia: It is as clear as day that Abdul Taib Mahmud is corrupt just by looking at the fortune he amassed while as chief minister in Sarawak. And with PM Najib actually supporting him, it pretty much shows that he endorses a corrupt politician.

Meranti Kepong: Hey Najib, please tell your colleague, Taib Mahmud, to return the billions in ill-gotten gains to the people of Sarawak. Anything less would be a slap on the face for Sarawakians.

Reson: Taib is a liability now. The bubble of his deceit and manipulation is bursting. The young lions will maul this old frail and much hated lion to smithereens. He is already ‘persona non grata' in his native land. Najib can only have one advice for this once wily one: Leave!

Anonymous: More likely, it will be the ‘you help me, and I help you' talk. It's not a bad idea at all to have 'heart to heart' talk and bid each other 'goodbye'.

Surau committee suspended, Teo gets warning

CPL: I think Pakatan Rakyat should never assume that because they are in power in Selangor, they can do anything without first checking on the cultural sensitivities.

While most readers (and not necessarily mosque goers here), think it is a-okay to do this, each community's cultural sensitivities require investigation and each area/parish/congregation may have its own quirks. I cannot believe that one would breach local protocol without checking local sentiments - it shows sheer arrogance if this is done.

I believe that in most mosques, unless it is a sermon, other ‘tazkirah' is not done at the prayer hall, especially by an outsider and an invited guest. I would also think that this is not a change you want to pursue in an order of priority.

Ramadan, being a special month in the Muslim calendar, has its own additional sensitivities. Please desist and perhaps prioritise your internal dialogue on hudud/qisas. Do your own internal Ramadan ‘tazkirah'. It might bring you ‘barakah' there. Selamat berpuasa .

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: To avoid controversies like this in the future, it is best for all politicians from both the BN and Pakatan - whether Muslim or non-Muslim - to stop using mosques and suraus for any sort of activity that may be deemed political by either the Selangor sultan or the MAIS (Selangor Islamic Religious Council).

Since it is the express wish of the sultan, it should be followed by all. However, the ruler should clarify whether Muslim and non-Muslim politicians from both sides can conduct charitable and alms-giving activities in the compounds and public halls of mosques and suraus in the state.

Since most of the controversy seems to involve Pakatan politicians, they should stop these activities immediately to preserve religious harmony in the state but the moment the Umno/BN leadership and politicians break this prohibition whether they are the PM, DPM or ministers for whatever reason, then the people of Selangor expect the sultan and MAIS to come down on them like a tonne of bricks and not sing a different tune.

Habib RAK: I'm a Muslim and I welcome DAP MP Teo Nie Ching to the mosque, including to the prayer hall, to address the congregation. She was there for a good purpose. My only advice to her is to wear a ‘selendang' (head scarf) next time just to observe the accepted practice.

As to the actions taken by MAIS, they are simply being ignorant or just being a servant to their Umno masters to exploit religion.

SayaAnakBangsaMalaysia: Teo Nie Ching was in the surau in a sincere effort to improve inter-faith and inter-cultural relations in an atmosphere that has been poisoned for decades by the false piety and bigoted rhetoric of Umno-BN.

Umno-BN is terrified of the idea of improved inter-cultural relations and will do anything it can to destroy it, since it undermines the very foundation of their hegemonic platform.

Wayan: I am surprised that MP Teo didn't know any better. Surely she knows that Muslim women going into a place worship cover their heads as a mark of respect. Next time, think before you act. Otherwise, you will hurt your cause.

Mohd Hazwan: Are we bent on destroying everything good that comes out in this country. Unity should be celebrated, not destroyed. What has happened to the people of this beautiful country of ours. Wasalam.

Anwar has crossed the line in Sabah

Kee: I think Sabahans should get rid of this big ‘frog' Jeffrey Kitingan, who jumps here and jump there, in and out of BN. Now that nobody wants him, he joins PKR. I trust Anwar Ibrahim anytime more than the Kitingan brothers.

Someone said it right: Pairin Kitingan has sold the souls of Sabahans to BN. I hope the natives will wake up. Allah, God, please help them lest they suffer for another 50 years.

Anticommunalist: PKR is very quick to discipline the 12 but Zulkifli Nordin was given a very long string even though he was causing havoc and being divisive. As it is, the older generation is very cautious and suspicious of Anwar but his recent actions are only compounding his chameleon antics.

RR: With all due respect, I don't think West Malaysians know what is happening. Jeffrey is a divisive force in PKR. He is bad news. He is practising some elements of Perkasa politics. We have wanted Anwar to be firm for a long time and we are very happy that these people finally get to be disciplined.

What's this? : I hope PKR will walk the talk about being a colourless party. Ex-Umno men are now in PKR and I hope they do not have their previous mentality.

Christians or Muslim leaders, what does it matter? All we want are good and clean leaders who will look after the rakyat's well-being.

GST unnecessary if gov't can cut waste

Li Ting Rui: You see, Malaysian crude oil has been sold in advance for payment to develop mega-projects during the Mahathir era. We don't have bargaining power now.

Any economist knows that a country cannot depend on just natural resources to survive. These resources will be depleted one day. Even Saudi oil will be depleted in two generations.

Malaysia is no exception. Our industrial manufacturing production has never contributed more than 50 percent of our GDP. We depend so much on oil and gas production for our GDP. Worst of all, BN/Umno is intentionally blocking the natural progress of the public sector (mainly non-Malays) by implementing policies that are not business-friendly. Corruption is the order of the day.

Even the FDI is so small that it cannot create significant impact on the economy. We depend heavily on oil and gas as well as palm oil. Palm oil is a simple, natural technology. There is no room for innovation. Industrial manufacturing is the answer to our economic survival.

Up: If they (BN) have been plundering and looting for the last umpteen years, do you think they care one hoot for the poor? They need GST to fatten their own pockets.

DAP: Give Sitiawan school back its historic name

Eric Lee: There are many more people like Ibrahim Ali and Ahmad Ismail in the local councils and land offices thanks to Biro Tatanegara. These people cannot stand the sight of names of people of other races for school buildings, business premises, road signs, etc. To them, Malaysia is what it is today because of their own race, other races have made no contributions at all.

The sad thing is that they have the backing of Umno, MCA and MIC. Their target is also achieved by keeping government employees of others races to a minimum. It is just amazing how long this has been happening, and all the while MCA and MIC have just keep quiet.

Bertrand Russell: We cannot deny humanity's powerful tendencies towards in-group loyalties and out-group hostilities. We desperately need to rename SK Simpang Empat to SK Gandhi if we really want to keep the spirit of ‘1Malaysia' alive. I call upon the people to nurture the spirit of Gandhi rather than Hitler's.

KSN: This a crusade DAP should proceed to success. Gandhi as in Mahatma evokes universal respect, admiration and is a fine example for leaders all over the world to emulate, especially in Malaysia with regards to Umno and BN.

For example, he has said that ‘power without responsibility is a sin' - one of the seven sins he listed. Compliments to you, DAP.
