'Gone are the days when just ‘cakap-cakap' was enough. Now you must walk the talk. And for your information, Khairy, you can't do it in Umno.'
Khairy: You'd need a death wish to go after Perkasa
Alan Goh: Khairy Jamaluddin, this is a good analysis on Perkasa, especially on the voting pattern. You are also right to say that Perkasa is driving the non-Malays away from Umno/BN. However, you fail to address the tainted leadership of Umno/BN leaders.
Until now, it looks like the ruling government's behaviour is still the same after March 2008. Khairy, be like Nazri Aziz - speak the truth on matters of public interest and reflect what the majority of the people think.
Speak out against the ‘apa nama' ex-PM (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) who thinks that he is the de facto PM, while serving as the backbone for Perkasa. Without Mahathir's support, the raja katak (Ibrahim Ali) and his Perkasa would die a natural death.
Abdullah Badwi: Gone are the days when just ‘cakap-cakap' was enough. Now you must walk the talk. And for your information, KJ, you can't do it in Umno.
You have been talking so much and trying to be 1Malaysia. But I have yet to hear a single comment from Umno Youth supporting your stance. Be careful. Sooner or later, both Umno and the non-Malays will shout you down.
Adcin: Interviews like this reveal the potential of Khairy Jamaluddin as a leader. I do not agree with him most of the time, probably due to his enforced defence of a rotten party, but imagine if he were on the side of the opposition. Maybe when Umno is sunk at the next general elections, he will lead the reform movement from within - if he is still left standing, that is. And that, too, is a big, big if.
Not duped: Don't be duped by Khairy. He may sound like his ways are far more sensible than his peers, but he was and will be an Umno product. Welcome him to Pakatan Rakyat? You must be mad to suggest that. He can destroy the party faster before you even blink. His spat with Ibrahim Ali-Mahathir is only a difference of opinion. Umno is and will be their only boat.
Anonymous: Khairy, for your information, the relevance of Umno is diminishing and diminishing at a very fast pace. The popular vote for Pakatan is more than BN. If Umno is relevant, since - as every Malaysians knows - they are the big brother of BN, BN would have pulled in more popular votes than Pakatan.
Another point to note is that more Malays are voting for Pakatan because a very big group of Malays are suffering economically due to the glaring and uncontrolled leakages and mismanagement of taxpayers' money by the BN government.
The third point, KJ should realise is that Malays are bumiputeras (as defined by the BN government), but not all bumiputeras are Malays (especially the bumiputeras in Sabah and Sarawak). This shows that Umno's control over the Malays is weak, therefore the need to include other bumiputeras to increase their vote bank.
However, the bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak are suffering economically, even more than their peninsular counterparts. Hence, BN's ‘fixed deposit' (according to Najib Razak) is uncertain.
Ruben: Khairy is right and for speaking up boldly and openly, he has my respect. I think he wants to change and to take the middle ground, but what can he do when he is up against the so-called party stalwarts who do not at all have the interest of the country (I want to reiterate here - the country) at heart, and who despite all their boldness are actually retards.
But then again, we seem to have no power at all to stop these retards, these people who can actually utter and do whatever they want, whether it is seditious or not. The very people who warn everyone about inciting racial or religious tensions are the very people who condone racism and religious intolerance.
Perkasa is a very clear example of a group that can utter anything they want but not a single thing is done by our leaders. The other BN parties and their leaders are actually spineless and of no use. KJ seems to be one exception.
Dingy: The fact is, Ibrahim Ali was barred from joining Umno after he stood as independent in the election. Hence to get back into Umno through the backdoor, he formed Perkasa and recruited Umno members. With Mahathir's support, Perkasa could become a force to reckon with and may one day even replace Umno.
Kgen: If Khairy really wants a better country, he should leave Umno and join Pakatan. Umno is incorrigible - there is no way to fix this decadent party. Race-based parties are on the way out as they can no longer lead Malaysia into the future. BN and Umno are full of structural contradictions which will cause them to collapse in on themselves in due course.
Khairy should be bold enough to step out and lead Malaysia into the next era, like Zaid Ibrahim and Chua Jui Meng.
Roland Shen Loong: KJ has lost much Malay support so his main task now is to garner non-Malay support, especially among the womenfolk and the educated urbanites. However, lately, he messed up badly when he condemned Namewee - the young rapper who launched an anti-racism movement through the cyberspace.
It's unlikely that his popularity will last as he has been sidelined by his own party despite carrying a huge tag as Umno Youth chief.
Not surprised: Khairy is spot on about Perkasa as Nurul Izzah Anwar is spot on about the New Economic Policy (NEP). Though they are on different wave lengths, they speak the truth. And when you speak the truth, it hurts and alienate some people who have been benefiting NEP and do not like to lose it.
Since he mentioned that most of the Perkasa supporters are actually Umno people (like a wolf in sheep's clothing), is it surprising that its registration was approved instantly? And that its members are ‘untouchables' as far as the Home Ministry or police is concerned.
Inspector-general of police Musa Hassan's parting shot that police work has been interfered with in the past makes very shocking revelation. So, what has the Home Ministry been doing about this revelation? In fact, the IGP should reveal which cases had been interfered with.
