PKR will be deliberating on the status of its newly-elected Bukit Bintang division chief Dr Lee Chong Meng with the uncovering of the fact that he had been an MCA member until yesterday.

NONE Last week the MCA suspended Lee ( left ) for allegedly misappropriating certain funds. However, recently he was elected unopposed as Bukit Bintang PKR division head.

"This means that he successfully applied for a PKR membership when he was still an MCA member without informing the party. This is an oversight," said PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali.

He said that the PKR political bureau will be discussing the matter soon after consulting the party election committee.

Lee, the self-described Doktor Ayam , finally quit the party yesterday in a huff over his suspension.

PKR's elections at the divisional level over the last three weekends had been hit with several complaints of errors on the party membership list.

This is the first time that PKR has allowed direct elections from divisional and national level, thereby allowing its 400,000 members to cast their ballots for the top posts.

The party election committee and secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution have pointed out that while the system had several teething problems , the process had been largely smooth.
