Nazri: Indians are rightful citizens

Oranje: Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, what you say is most welcomed. But will your 1Malaysia PM say this openly?

You talk about Perkasa not being part of Umno, but then go on to say most of its members are Umno. Does this not speak for the fact that Umno is filled with racist Malays and only a few moderates like you?

Soapbox: Indian Malaysians don't need Nazri's endorsement, but Nazri needs the Indians' endorsement, just like the rest of the BN leaders. Secondly, the blood in ‘Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku' was metaphorical, not physical. So was Nazri blowing hot air when he spoke about this?

Anonymous: Nazri, we would have trusted you if you mentioned these words in Umno or other Malay events, such as at Perkasa gatherings. We have known in the past that BN leaders sing different tunes at different events, so this does not impress us.

Ramakrishnan: Nazri, terima kasih . Indians in Malaysia need jobs, scholarships, business opportunities, blue ICs for those born here, etc. They will sacrifice their lives for Malaysia, although they've been long deprived of opportunities and marginalised.

Umno must be inclusive and get rid of race-based parties if you truly mean what you say. It must walk the talk. Abolish Perkasa.

Patriot: Spoken like a true statesman who values a nation of diversity in our drive for prosperity and growth. However, mere words are not enough, and a lot need to be done in order to correct the imbalances that exists between Malaysians of various races.

Remember, we are as strong as the weakness link. Replace all the old and shallow-thinking leaders and bring in more young and forward-looking leaders who see and share a vision of hope for all Malaysians.

KSN: Well said, Nazri. Now tell the Indians how the government, with or without MIC, plans to alleviate their suffering and correct the imbalances as a result of BN's and MIC's 30-over years of neglect and marginalisation.

Tell them specifically what the government's policies and programmes are towards that end and the mechanics of effective implementation. That assured and seen on the ground, Indians will support BN or any other party with such plans and strategies.

Mere words cannot be trusted anymore. When people are driven to the wall, especially the poor, without anything to lose, what will they do, Nazri? I am certain you know the answer to that.

Brij Jayaram Kathiravelu: 'The mothers of Indians born in Malaysia have spilled their blood on the soil of the nation when they delivered them into this world, hence they are the sons of the Malaysian soil, as sung in our national anthem Negara Ku, 'Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku'.

This is the worst analogy drawn by any person, let alone a senior politician. If any right-minded Indian Malaysian is going to support any political party or coalition based on such analogies, than we are in for an extended version of the '53 years of ride' which saw an end with the March 8, 2008 general election.

I'm eager to read Perkasa's take on this statement.

Timoth Y Yong: Why tell this to the Indians and MCA's Chinese? Tell it right into the faces of Ibrahim Ali, the racist guru besar (headmasters), and Ahmad Ismail in Penang. Or else it's just another sweetener before the general elections.

Gandhi: Nazri, it's heartening to hear from you such truth regarding Indian rights. Your words have cemented the arrival of new politics in Malaysia - the binary politics of Pakatan Rakyat versus BN.

I doubt you would have said this before March, 2008. The perceived fear of Pakatan and that BN may not do well is haunting all of you into facing real politics. There are a lot of promises made to the Indians but they have not been implemented.

It's not smart of you to ask Indians to join the Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP). It's a party filled with jokers and not one of them has any leadership quality. You are again telling the Indians to go backwards (perhaps that's your idea) by promoting MMSP.

Leave it to the Indians to decide for themselves who to vote for. MMSP is a fledgling party with no heavyweights who can work for the Indians.

Nazri, make a deal with Hindraf and unite the Indians instead of splitting them. Hindraf is a force to reckon with. By splitting the Indians, no one is going to benefit.

Abil: Bagus cakap, dato Nazri, but you are not the PM. Let us Indians not be taken for a ride for the next 30 years. We are citizens of this country, but we have to fight for the right that every other citizen gets.

We citizens have to fight for places in the university, we need to fight for scholarships for our children, we need to fight for public service employment. Lip service is no service. We are thrown out of estates without compensation. We have to fight for our survival. These citizens have to fight for public housing each and every time an estate is dismantled and are thrown out without mercy.

We citizens have an option now to vote for a viable party to govern us. All this talk would not happen if not for the March 8 tsunami.

AJ: Will the Indians fall for this? What Nazri said was the obvious. Is this a small favour for Indians to trust Umno? Is the prime minister using certain ministers to selectively placate certain groups, but they are not the voice of the entire Umno?
