PKR veep Mustaffa Kamil Ayub is mulling pulling out of the deputy president's race should the party fail to respond and take action on his claims of ‘irregularities' and ‘weaknesses' in the direct elections.

"I am not ruling out the possibility of pulling out. It depends on the response to my memo which contains the concerns of the grassroots which saw for themselves the weaknesses and irregularities in the party elections," he told Malaysiakini today.

NONE Mustaffa ( right ) also reiterated his call for the party to suspend the election process until such a time when the weaknesses are addressed.

He will be sending the memo to president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and election committee (JPP) chairperson Dr Molly Chia detailing the when, why and where of the ‘irregularities'.

He refused to comment further but said he will hold a press conference to explain the matter after he has sent the memo.

Last week, Mustaffa called for the suspension of polls following allegations of discrepancies in the process.

"The polling agents have acted unprofessionally and in a biased manner. This includes inconsistent tallying of votes, especially for the positions of deputy president and vice-presidents," he said in a statement.

Zaid also dissatisfied

At the same time agents acting for Zaid have also called for a halt, claiming that polling in several divisions had begun late and affected the results.

There was also a mix-up in the results for the first 68 divisions which went to the polls last weekend to select the central leadership.

NONE The party had initially posted official results on its website, showing that Zaid ( left ) was leading, but later revised this to put Azmin ahead, blaming human error in the computation.

Zaid had announced in his blog early this morning that he has pulled out of the race for deputy president, and that he has quit all his party posts.

While no reason was given, speculation points to Zaid's unhappiness with the slow response of the JPP and party leaders to his allegations of irregularities in the polls process.

However, deputy secretary-general Syarifah Shahida Syed Kamarulzaman told reporters today that without official notification by Zaid to the JPP, he is still in the running .

She said this when announcing the official results from 78 of the divisions up to last weekend. All told, there are 222 divisions in PKR.
