Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Zaid Ibrahim's decision to withdraw from the PKR elections alleging fraud showed that PKR did not practise the fairness and transparency it preached.  

He said the questioning of the PKR ongoing election process by Zaid and several other PKR leaders should make the people realise the flaws in the opposition party.

Zaid, who was involved in a three-corner fight for the post of deputy president in PKR, pulled out of the elections yesterday alleging fraud and said he was resigning from all party posts, including chairman of the PKR Federal Territories division.

"He (Zaid) had stated he wanted to join PKR to strengthen it, and today he is lamenting that PKR is not what he thought it was," he said, adding that it confirmed what had been suspected all along - that PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim and his group only fought for their own interests.  

Muhyiddin was asked for his comment on Zaid's pullout of the PKR race for the No 2 position after he had chaired a meeting of the National Education Advisory Council in Putrajaya.

Zaid, the stronger of the challengers of Anwar's blue-eyed boy Azmin Ali for the deputy presidency, withdrew from the race though only a third of the party's divisions had held their elections.

Muhyiddin said PKR regarded itself as the leader of the opposition pact in the quest to topple the BN in the general election, but there is uncertainty in the party itself.

"Their members themselves seem not so confident. How are the people going to have confidence in a party which claims to champion fairness, transparency and human rights but is itself in disarray?" he said.

Muhyiddin said the people should realise that what PKR was championing was mere political rhetoric and nothing real.

"From what Zaid and some others have said, they are disappointed and have lost confidence in what the party is championing," he said.

Muhyiddin said it was strange that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail did not do anything to solve the problems in the party.

"Usually, in a political party, the leaders have to solve problems. I do not know who the leader (in PKR) is - Anwar, Azmin or Azizah?

"It is not good for an organisation if it is unclear who the leader is," he said.
