'It's time to dismantle and to break up the national police force and place them under the respective states. The police force is getting too strong and powerful for our own good.'
'Did my son beg for mercy before being shot?'
Pity Him: Sadness cannot be felt by the Royal Police Force Malaysia (PDRM) for they have no remorse. Isn't the story tag line of ‘self-defence' familiar?
On this specific shooting case, why on earth were so many shots fired on two teenagers. Though they may have been up to no good on that fateful night, the officers cannot have acted so rashly because those two boys could not have attacked them in any form.
Tired: I don't understand why some people label the police as ‘Umno goons'. Do they mean to say that if Pakatan Rakyat takes over the government, the police will suddenly change into a professional force with no weaknesses and shortcomings?
Not everyone in the police, army, Bomba, Rela, customs, immigration, etc, supports the government. I believe some are even card-carrying members of opposition parties. In the Galas by-election, for example, almost half of the postal votes (police and army personnel) went to PAS.
The mother's anguish and anger is understandable, but to insinuate that the teens were ordered to go down on their knees and then executed Mafia-style, I find that a bit too difficult to believe.
Anonymous: What is a 16-year-old doing out at 3.30am? The police may have been trigger-happy, but don't the parents bother what their son is doing at such late hours?
Lesungbatu: KL and/or Klang Valley literally never sleep. I've seen many times people of various age ‘lepaking' at mamak restaurants, stalls and ‘branded' outlets which opens up till early morning.
The issue here is not why the deceased stay up late but why the PDRM shot them in such a cruel and cold-blooded manner. It was not like they were high on wanted list. Why couldn't the police go over to the parents' house and nab them? It looks like our police are so happy to pull the trigger these days.
SoothSayer: Don't blame the police. And Umno has nothing to do with it. Pakatan people are sick for praising criminals. Never in my life have the police come and harass me. Why? Because I observe the law.
This teenager is indeed a criminal. It is standard procedure for families to blame the police for shooting their loved ones.
ZAR: Satu hari nanti bila anak-cucu kau kena, masa tu kau baru sedar.
Sentinel: They have always asked us to be kind and not criticise the police. But honestly, no one is criticising the police in Malaysia anymore. Everyone is cursing this bunch of trigger-happy and indisciplined bunch who are really irresponsible. Bring on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), for God's sake!
Habib RAK: The civil society should demand the government implements the IPCMC as recommended by the royal commission immediately. We must have accountability so that it protects both the society at large and the police institution.
By letting incidents of this nature going unaccounted for only destroys the police institution and people's trust in them. There is no reason for the police to resist the implementation of the IPCMC.
Chia Wee Yan: When will we have the IPCMC to thoroughly investigate such fatal shootings that crop up regularly? The victims are always dead, the shooters always allege that the victims tried to attack them, and dead men tell no tales.
ISA@1penyu: Every time something like this happens, PKR will be the first to jump on the police and shout brutality. Being a policeman is hard these days as parents have no time to look after the kids - either they blame the teachers or the police when things go wrong. What were they doing in the streets in the wee hours of the morning? Surely not going for prayers.
In Kuala Terengganu, Mat Rempits have rammed at police and even injured them so many times. Many teenagers have no respect for the law. There are youths out there who go and steal at night and do a lot of nonsense which the parents do not bother to control, and when things go wrong, it's always the police or BN that's wrong.
We have to responsible for our kids, as they, too, make life difficult for others. Kids have caused the death of others. You want justice, just look after your kids.
Rolls-Royce: It is time to dismantle and to break up the national police force and place them under the respective states. A national police force is getting too strong and powerful for our own good. Pakatan Rakyat politicians should bring up issues like this instead of just reacting. It is useless, unless the whole power equation of the police is changed.
Concerned Citizen: Yet another shooting? How many more of this kind of 'trigger-happy' police will we hear? Even if the boys were up to no good, must they have been shot in such manner?
Ghkok: While the police are tracking down and shooting people indiscriminately, burglaries and robberies continue unabated. Can we conclude that they are tracking down the wrong people?
There is obviously something wrong in the way they operate. What is the Home Ministry doing? Are they not responsible for overseeing the police? Is the KPI system working? Is it asking the police to operate in such a way as to meet some ‘targets' at all cost regardless of the accuracy of the information?
Malaysians need to hold Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein responsible, because this is not an isolated case where you can put the blame on a rogue policeman. There is an obvious pattern in the manner of operations which the minister must be answerable for.
TSC: Even if the youngsters were up to no good, why do the police only target the vital parts like the head and the chest, and not non-vital parts like legs and arms to just maim instead of kill?
Or is this the standard operating procedure of the police force now - shoot to kill?
