The government is monitoring to ensure there are no elements of impudence towards differences in the teachings of the four mazhab (sects) in Islam following the influx of Muslim visitors to Malaysia.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Mashitah Ibrahim said the government had asked mosque congregations to report to the religious authorities of the existence of such elements.
"For example, based on Islamic law administration in the Federal Territories, teachings which are in conflict with the Sunnah Wal Jamaah (practised by Muslims in Malaysia) cannot be taught or spread here.
"We are aware that there are differences in the teachings of the four mazhab, but we are ensuring there are no arising contemptuous elements," she said in reply to a question from Nasharudin Mat Isa (PAS-Bachok) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Nasharudin had raised the issue of sensitivities with regard to the different mazhab following the influx of visitors and students from various Muslim countries including Iran, as well as those residing in Malaysia now.
On the building of houses of worship in new housing areas which was raised by Md Sirat Abu (BN-Bukit Katil), Mashitah said a guideline was being studied to resolve the issue soon.
"The guideline will be implemented by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, with the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) as a member of the implementing committee."
She said Jakim was also cooperating with government agencies like the state Islamic religious departments and councils, as well as non-governmental organisations in organising programmes to create better understanding of Islam and build cordial relations between Muslims and non-Muslims.
