Exco in hot soup over 'graft in DAP' remark

A week after suffering a humiliating defeat during the Selangor DAP polls, Selangor exco Ronnie Liu could be hauled before the party’s disciplinary committee over remarks he had made suggesting money politics in DAP.

The powerful disciplinary committee has issued  him a show-cause letter , asking Liu to explain his comments made during an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini .

“Ronnie Liu, as DAP central committee member and Selangor exco, should know what he is talking about and he shouldn’t simply make accusations. We hope that he will give us full cooperation,” said disciplinary committee chief Tan Kok Wai ( left ), who is Cheras MP.

According to Tan, the disciplinary committee had taken the onus to initiate the investigation against Liu.

Tan said Liu did not reveal specific details of party corruption in the interview, and as such the committee will need to question him.

“He made a public statement which could hurt DAP’s reputation and image,” said Tan.

Tan stressed that DAP has zero tolerance for corruption, and the party will take action should there be allegations of money politics.

The disciplinary committee chief, however, said that he had not received any complains of vote-buying in the recent Selangor DAP election.

Liu: 'DAP becoming like MCA'

In his interview with Malaysiakini , Liu said he feared DAP was heading the way of MCA, with a rising inclination for money politics and vote buying.

"I am so very worried that DAP will become another MCA... plagued with things like money politics.

"If you want to win, you have buy people dinner, send people for holidays. You have to promise candidacy and all that, promise them they'll be councillor or village head. That is MCA.

"I don't want DAP to be like that. We have only become state government, we cannot afford to become like that... I think it is heading that way if we are not careful," Liu had said.

Liu, when contacted by Bernama , confirmed receiving the show cause letter and said he

would reply it within two weeks.

"I will explain in details about what I have said in the interview. I have received the the show cause letter through my e-mail yesterday," he said.

This is not Liu's first summons to face the disciplinary committee.

A few months earlier, he was quizzed on allegations that his former aide and once staunch supporter Tee Boon Hock ( above ) had used his letterhead to convince local authorities to provide contracts to a company linked to his son.
