FREE TENANG DAY 4 What's happening in the by-election campaign in the state constituency of Tenang? Quotable quotes, planned events and unplanned incidents as they take place in N5.
10.50am : It's drizzling in Tenang constituency.
11.30am:
As promised, Kubang Kerian MP and PAS vice-president Salehuddin Ayub
(left)
unveils a "revelation" about the BN candidate Mohd Azahar Ibrahim.
However, it fails to dazzle the packed press conference when the 'scandal' turns out to be an alleged case of negligence by Mohd Azahar while he was Segamat assistant district officer.
But whether this will this be the first and last revelation by PAS against the BN candidate remains to be seen.
Salehuddin's answer to this was a cryptic "wait and see".
11.46am: PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali in a statement says that MCA president Chua Soi Lek was led to make his remarks about PAS candidate Normala Sudirman's refusal to shake men's hands because of Umno leaders' failure to teach him Muslim manners.
Chua himself also cannot differentiate between what is moral and what is immoral, says Mustafa.
"That is why to him and to his party MCA, being caught on video have sex with another (woman) is alright. That is why he went on to be MCA president," Mustafa adds.
"Umno leaders should remind their non-Muslim friends to respect the rights of Muslims just as Muslims should respect the rights of non-Muslims.
"We do not put down non-Muslims, such as the Chinese, for eating pork, for example, because that is their right.
"This is the difference in Pakatan Rakyat, for when a DAP leader and a non-Muslim leader in PKR try to understand Islam, it is a good thing, whether it's about a non-Muslim entering a mosque or reciting the Quran or greeting 'salam'.
12.30pm: MCA president Chua announces that former PKR supreme council member Ng Lum Yong has decided to join MCA.
Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor, who joined Umno in 2008, is also at the press conference held in the Labis MCA office.
Ng Lum Yong (
right
) tore up a mock PKR membership card during the press conference.
His membership no is 0000012 which proves he is one of the early founders of PKR.
"I have seen the changes in PKR during my 12 years in the party. Its struggle has no agenda, today it is only about a person named Anwar Ibrahim."
Ezam added that over 90 percent of PKR founders, including those with membership number from 0000002 to 0000007, are no longer in the party.
"There is no party in malaysia or in the world in which 90 percent of its founding members had quit. There must be something very wrong."
(0000001 is Wan Azizah, 0000007 is Ezam.)
12.30pm
: Azahar is having lunch with other BN party leaders at a restaurant in Tenang Station.
After lunch, he will also perform prayers at the mosque opposite the restaurant.
The drizzle has not stopped yet.
3.17pm: A coalition of Islamic NGOs add its voice to the condemnations being heaped on Chua for his remarks against Normala during the by-election campaign.
Council of Islamic groups MAPIM says Chua’s comments reflect attempts to drag religious conduct into racist politics.
“We do not see this why he has to go so low in bringing the 'hand shake' issue as a campaign point to scare and instill hatred between Chinese community with Muslims.
"Chua’s remarks reflect that of a bankrupt politician who refuses to accept the long-standing tradition of Muslims in Malaysia generally not to shake the hands of persons of the opposite gender, as provided by Islamic teachings.
“Is he also not aware that this is also a general practice amongst the Indian community?” asks the group in a statement signed by its secretary-general Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid ( left ).
“For a senior and seasoned politician not understanding or unwilling to accept the norm after more than a decade of the nation’s independence, shows that he is not fit to be a leader... We perceive his stance as an insult not only to the Malaysian community but also to Islam. He holds no credentials whatsoever to express his position on how Muslims should behave.”
MAPIM says it demands that Chua retracts his statement and calls on Umno to make their position clear on this issue and remind all BN component party members to stop making racist and insensitive remarks.
4pm: Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen and Jamilah Ariffin, the wife of the Johor menteri besar, at a meet-the-people session at Taman Labis Jaya.

6.15pm: Right before launching the DAP's new leaflet to introduce the PAS candidate, DAP secretary-general and Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng had some choice words for his political opponent.

In the Pakatan Rakyat demonstration against the Federal Government's water restructuring exercise, Kok had refused to enter the inner sanctum of the mosque.
While she had later explained that it was to avoid the issue from being manipulated by Umno quarters, clips of her lingering around the mosque compound have been circulated.
9.00pm:
A group of about 30 youths in BN t-shirts have gathered just 20 metres away from a PAS ceramah venue in Felda Chemplak Barat.

Despite the rain, it appears that their objective is to disrupt the Pakatan ceramah.
The group is also heckling at each of the speakers here.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is expected to speak here later.

Soon she is surrounded by voters who want to take photographs with her.
In her short speech, Normala shouted "Huan!" three times. It means "change" in Mandarin, which is also the DAP campaign theme.
Her speech draws applause and cheers from the floor.
Almost all those who attended the ceramah are happy to paste the red "Huan" sticker on their shirts.
Before leaving, Normala was asked about a cyber attack on her first marriage. She replied: "I think I will comment tomorrow."

Meanwhile, the youths link arms and continue to heckle, while PAS dewan ulama information chief Nik Zawawi Nik Salleh delivers his speech.
9.40pm: Guan Eng blames the demonstration at Felda Chemplak Barat on Umno. He claims this won't stop him from entering Felda (photo above) .
9.44pm: Rain falls again after Guan Eng had started his speech for about 10 minutes. However the rain does not deter the crowd from listening to him. Many share their umbrellas with others. Some find shelter in the shoplot corridors.
10.05pm: after Guan Eng has finished his speech, those who bought his biography queue up to get his signature. Over 80 books were sold at the ceramah tonight.
10.20pm: Guan Eng makes a move to Felda Chemplak Barat.
10.45pm: The DAP secretary general arrives in Felda Chemplak Barat to much heckling by the youths in the BN t-shirts.
The group sings "Inilah Barisan kita" and various Islamic religious songs while Guan Eng speaks.
In his speech, Guan Eng, who had been to other Felda settlements before, says this is his first time in Felda Chemplak Barat. "But it won't be my last."
11pm: Guan Eng leaves Felda Chemplak Barat. A group of Chinese press photographers who were leaving the venue were also heckled by the youths in the BN t-shirts who shouted at them "baliklah".
