PKR's Shuhaimi charged with sedition

Ah Hoe: From the Hansard (unless it has been deleted like what has happened in Kuching ): on Dec 10, 1992, Dr Affifuddin Omar, an Umno man from Padang Terap, asked in Parliament : "How can we continue to uphold rulers who are known to be robbers, adulterers, drunkards and kaki pukul (thugs)?"

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Sri Muda state assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei was only expressing his opinion on the subject of the appointment of the SS (state secretary) by the sultan. He did not call for the sultan to abdicate or for the monarchy in Selangor to be abolished. So where is the intent to cause or incite hatred or disaffection towards the ruler or to cause public disorder?

After the acquittal of YB Karpal Singh last year for sedition by the High Court for his opinion on the legal immunity of the Perak sultan during the unconstitutional takeover of the state government by the BN in 2009, the attorney-general should not have proceeded with the prosecution of Shuhaimi. The issues are similar.

Shuhaimi has explained the meaning of the Malay proverb that he used, and frankly unless you are a Malay linguist no one can really give a fair and accurate meaning of it to the public. So how can it be seditious or have a seditious tendency if people cannot even uniformly understand what it meant? It cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Kit Carson: Stand your ground, Shuhaimi! When Umno acted against the royalty during Mahathir Mohamad's time, our royalty were cowed into silence. Today, when there is no basis for a sedition charge, we the rakyat of Selangor hope the sultan will do the right thing.

Sarajun Hoda: Shuhaimi Shafiei has said that he did not refer his comments to the sultan and has also apologised if the sultan felt slighted. So what is all this sandiwara ? Attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, the deputy public prosecutors, judges, police, etc, have no other productive work to do? Or is this just plain harassment?

If out of sheer frustration, a Tunisia or Eqypt-like revolution happens here, God forbid, the police must be blamed, just like what happened in Tunisia: it all started with the atrocities of the police. PM Najib will have only Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to blame.

Docs: I totally agree with Perkasa on this issue - why not hang Shuhaimi for committing sedition against our wonderful, just and beloved Selangor sultan? It is not fair to let Shuhaimi off with a fine or a measly three-year prison sentence.

It's about time we bring back the glory days of the Malay rulers and hang anyone who says anything bad or seditious against them. I think we should also hang people even for having seditious thoughts about the rulers.

Better still; let's hang all Pakatan Rakyat members as they are one bunch of seditious lot. Only Umno protects the rulers. Or should I say the rulers protect Umno? Hang all Pakatan members now, before the elections preferably, so that Umno can stay in power.

Lim Chong Leong The state assemblies have all been bastardised. There is no more democracy and no more law in 1Malaysia. Judges record whatever they choose to write down, parliament and state assemblies edit members' speeches and questions. Cabinet is sidelined by Umno's supreme council.

Sarawakian_3ff9: When it comes to Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, there's no law that can apply to him. He thinks he's a dictator who can do whatever he likes, including giving his son state land that's equivalent to the size of Singapore.

This man has to go, and the sooner the better. The state speaker is just one of his sycophants will do anything to please the master.

Not Confused: This blatant disregard for democracy is disgusting, but can only be expected from a despot heading a corrupt and arrogant regime - BN. Boy, they really are running scared to take such desperate steps.

Focus: Study history and one will know this is one of the traits of dictators. Dictators think they are above all laws, hence, they perceive they have the power and means and the licence to do anything according to their whims and fancies. History tells us that in no time, people will revolt. The time has come.

Pakman: I am not surprised that such things can be allowed in the ‘Dewan Yang Mulia', when there have been cases such as the medical reports in Sodomy I and II, Teoh Beng Hock, A Kugan, and many others documented evidences were edited and doctored to hide the truth. But eventually, truth will prevail.

Anwar to MACC: Why the silence over Taib exposes?

Anonymous_4070: I wondering why Anwar Ibrahim is so free that he can keep on disturbing MACC about its work? Anwar, if you love to get involved in MACC work so much, why don't you apply to become the MACC chief? You have four states to take care and tons of unfulfilled promise to fulfill.

I would suggest you to mind on your own business first before you start pointing fingers at others. It is totally ridiculous as you can't carry out your own duties well, but you talk of others not doing theirs.

Not Confused: Anonymous_4070, you are clearly being disingenuous - you seem to be quite happy to accept the blatant, documented evidence of corruption in Sarawak, but instead take cheap potshots at Anwar who, together with others in PKR, are concerned about the lack of investigations into these issues.

You must be as corrupt as those in Sarawak by remaining silent on the issue.

Gunner: It has been estimated that Hosni Mubarak's assets valued at around US$70 billion after 30 years being the president of Egypt. Sarawakians must change.

3ec6: Can MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed respond to this? If not, you should gracefully resign as there is third party involvement that is hampering your organisation from performing.

Freemsia: Najib knows that Sarawak is one of BN's fixed deposits. And Taib Mahmud (despite all the corruption allegations) has many supporters. Najib is more concerned about ensuring continued support of Sarawakians via Taib Mahmud rather than to focus on battling corruption.

Action speaks louder than words. Staying in power is Najib's no 1 priority. Fighting corruption is secondary.
