Store-owner Chow Soo Meng, who has accused plainclothes police officers of slapping and robbing her in Sungai Buloh last week, has identified the policewoman who allegedly took RM20,000 in cash from her handbag.

Chow, 38, picked out the cop from a line-up of eight women at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 12.05pm today.

It is believed that she holds the rank of constable.

NONE Chow, who is eight months pregnant, was accompanied by lawyer and Segambut parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng.

“It only took her about 30 seconds to point out the female officer who had handcuffed her and taken her money,” said Lim.

In the first place, he stressed, the police had no right to seize items from Chow's shop.

"Hard liquor and cigarettes are only to be seized by the customs department, not by the police," he said.

"(The police) were from the narcotics division (looking for) drugs, but none was found in the premises."

Chow said she was more than willing to pay the fine of RM1,500 for possession of contraband cigarettes.

"But I definitely want back my RM20,000 and to see that justice is done. No case has been brought against me so far by the police. I hope the officers will be penalised,” she said.

Contacted later, Petaling Jaya OCPD Arjunaidi Mohammed refused to comment on the matter.

Probe into assault claim

Chow had identified five other police officers in a line-up last Saturday.

About 6.30pm on Feb 2, 11 plainclothes personnel cut open the grille door to Chow's shop when she refused to unlock it.

They took away several types of cigarettes, six bottles of hard liquor, mandarin oranges, three cartons of canned drinks, 30 mobile SIM cards and removed the close-circuit TV camera recorder.

Chow, who claimed to have been slapped in the process, said the officers had also stolen RM20,000 in cash. She then lodged a police report.

Petaling Jaya police have denied that the officers took the money and other items, claiming that only RM15,900 was seized for investigation into possible ill-gotten gains.

Investigations are also in progress into Chow’s allegation that she was assaulted.
